While not my last purchase of the year, this coin arrived today from Switzerland, so it will probably be the last coin I actually receive this year. It is a Tetradrachm of Nero from the Alexandria mint issued in AD 66-67. I have been looking for an example of this type that combined a price I could live with and a coins I would be happy with.
Wow. The whole hull of the ship is on the flan. I'm jealous. Want one of these, but haven't found the right one yet. That one would've certainly met my criteria.
Fantastic toning, portrait, awesome style of ship on the reverse I have been looking for an Alexandrian Nero tet. Wish I had one. Then we'd have a pair of tets between us
Congratulations on your Nero tetradrachm! I also got a registered letter from Switzerland today...not ancient MS-64 France Louis Philippe AV 20 francs 1831-A Maison Palambo Auction.
