Yeah, there's a lot of fairly common junk and bullion slabbed in all that, but no key dates. makes you wonder. Guy
If it's anything like the bulk lots this seller sells under ebay id Anthonysrarecoins then there will be a healthy portion of counterfeits as well. This seller has been at it with these "put together" lots for years. He has several ebay handles, this is one more to add to the list.
The reserve isn't $44K, that's only the current bid. The reserve price is hidden from the bidders until it is met or surpassed I believe. It may even be hidden until the end of the auction.
Coin talkers may want to update there computors before clicking on that last link. More pics than my computor can handle.
I'm with most on this thread, I'd hesitate to bid without seeing it in person. Lots of potential, but you've got to wonder about things like the 1916 D Mercs and the 1893 S Morgans he shows just sitting in an album. Could they be authentic? sure, but I wouldn't bet on it. If I could get an accurate count on all the silver, I might be willing to bid close to melt, any key dates would then be a bonus. I've got to admit though, it sure would be a lot of fun to look through that collection and see what I could find!
Good call. I was wondering that as well when I saw it in New Jersey. He sold a lot a few years ago of Elamite coins that was about 50/50 counterfeit/low grade authentic.
Too many coins to consider without any real close ups and reverses on the keys and semi-keys. I saw a 1916 D Merc in an album that looked AG3 or less. I'd want to see at least 50 coins worth $1000 each before I'd bid $45K without seeing anything up close. I'll pass on this one, even though it's a lifetime searching project!
I can't seem to figure out if it's on purpose or if they just don't know their stuff. I've purchased a couple lots from them in the past. After weeding out the counterfeits I felt they were still a really good deal. Case and point: They had a small lot of just a few coins several months ago. There was a modern counterfeit Spanish 8 reales pictured next to a fairly high grade and authentic Wood's Hibernia halfpenny (and a few other common coins). The lot went for $110 and change due to the obvious fake coin, but the Wood's Hibernia coin resold for a little over $235. The lots look purposely put together, but I'm not sure what the guy's deal is.
Almost makes me want to stop collecting. I think even with my ten years of obsessive compulsive collecting and with many more decades to go I don't think I could ever obtain such a lot. This is simply inhuman.
"His family does not want me to use his name" Yet several photos from the top, there's the guy's name and address. If the guy took the time to weigh the coins, why didn't he take the time to cull out all the non-silver coins, and give that weight?? Rhetorical question.
Hello Everyone, This is Brian (Brianhowardart), I'm glad to see so much interest in my auction. Thanks for the lively dialog and attention! I hope some of you guys are bidders. As much as I appreciate the dialog, I'm a bit concerned by the incorrect statements made here, present as though they are fact. I would like to clear a few things up, because I don't want anyone here operating under false information. Any serious potential bidder is welcome and encouraged to take a look at the collection in person. Obviously I cannot image every single aspect of every item in here, but I did my best to provide a plethora of representative images. Although I do have experience in coins and I do collect (mostly due to metal content) I am not a full time coin dealer. I mainly deal in comic books and comic book artwork. I don't have the time or inclination to start a coin business, but I do have buying opportunities presented to me regularly. This is why I am not breaking up the collection and I prefer to sell larger groups. I have been doing this successfully for months and see no reason to stop. I'm willing to forego squeezing every penny of profit from these collections in order to turn them over quicker and re-invest the capital in my main business or towards new purchases. I'm happy to leave some room for profit for a buyer who has the time and inclination to work this collection to it's fullest potential. Obviously this collection is not "junk" like some have attempted to paint it. There is hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of metal value alone, and on top of it many key dates, sets, premium stuff, etc... I would ask that those who are quick to trash someone's items think about whether or not they truly have enough information to do so. Before you set out to damage someone's listings and reputation, please at least make sure you are basing that on facts... If anyone needs a guarantee on any particular coins like the 1893 S , 1877 indian etc please call me. They are genuine, as well as ALL of the other key dates. I would gladly refund money for any fakes found at FULL RETAIL! That's how certain I am. I am not Anthonysrarecoins... I don't understand how false statements can be made with such certainty, but it is important for those who do not operate under assumption to know the facts. I have done business with Anthonysrarecoins.. I actually take a bit of credit for their decision a long time ago to sell large lots. The accusations made against Anthonysrarecoins are serious and I do not want them falsely attributed to me. I will be emailing them so they can see the statements made and make their own decision as how to respond. I hope this clears up a few things. I was excited about putting this collection up intact, and although it's a bit of a bummer to see false accusations and incorrect statements be part of the attention is is receiving, I am happy that you all are enjoying checking it out. My direct contact info is in my auction listings. If anyone has any questions, I would ask you get in touch before jumping to conclusions. Thanks, Brian
Regardless of whether certain aspects of this collection are genuine, it would be fun to run through something like this. Inherting such a collection would be a dream of me and many people here, I presume. There is some interesting looking stuff in all those photos, but I can see that the orginators of the collection certainly liked silver coins much more than base ones. There was, it appeared, very limited numbers (in relation) of nickels, which is one of my prefered types/series.
Brian, Thank you for your post sir. As I was one who accepted you were Anthony's Rare coin, I will personally apologize for that. I am sorry sir and I should not have accepted that statement. I am sure everyone here who made incorrect assumptions are sorry they did so. I think you show a great deal of class coming on here and posting about your auction. Thank you very much for going through such effort. As one positive part of the feedback from this thread, I believe that you would be well served taking close ups of the key dates, fron and back, as I think this would facilitate maximizing the value from your auction. Again, no offense meant and I truly am glad you came here to clear this up. Chris
Chris, No hard feelings. I appreciate your comments. I understand what people are saying regarding putting additional work and time into this auction, but I really thought that the 300+ photos I provided showed enough value. Most of the posters on here probably have more coin knowledge than I do, so what may seem like an easy task for some would probably be more difficult and time consuming for me. I simply have too much going on in my daily business to dedicate such time for a project like that. I don't want to pay an expert to come in and do it for me, so I'm willing to forgo completely maximizing the value in exchange for a quicker turnover. Thanks, Brian
