There's more than a few of us that lost interest after finding out that Congress had essentially cut out silver versions of the coins. IMHO, people would have been crawling all over each other to buy silver versions.

It seem every time there's a lot of money involved, the courts hear the case . Look at the Anna Nicole Smith case .

They didn't so much cut out silver (which implies they acted) as failed to authorize specifically a silver version (which is a failure to act). Gold and platinum are just handled fundamentally differently under existing law. Whatever idea the Mint dreams up on their own, they can do, as long as it's done in bullion quality gold or platinum alloys. Not so with silver, or even "classic" gold coin formulations. The future breast cancer rose gold coin can also only be done by Congress. Only precious bullion grade coins are given Executive Branch autonomy.

Kurt, you do realize what will happen if Mike responds accordingly, do you not? You would have been a natural to position the plutonium and tickle the dragon's tail in '44 in Los Alamos.

What? I'm being totally sincere. I consider Mike a full blown legitimate journalist, I'm not being snarky here. Note: full blown, not full TIME. His and Matt's podcast is one of the best numismatic news aggregation sources going. I love hearing them "pick your news". I subscribe via iTunes. I never miss an episode.

BTW, I could have sworn that was 1945, but I won't insist on it. By the way, tomorrow is the Hiroshima anniversary and Tuesday is the Nagasaki. Say a silent prayer, please. Pray for wisdom for all mankind.

Less in travel reimbursement, for sure. I hope he billed them bulk rate for Amtrak trips.

Hey Jim, thanks for using the "tickle the dragon's tail" line. I'd never heard it before. I looked it up. I learned something new today, thanks to you. You get a cookie. Collect when we meet up.

Holy cow! I just learned PHILADELPHIA LAWYER goes all the way back to colonial times! Greenie joins the cookie list. Great, now I need to go to the store.

I am proud to call Dave Harper one of my favorite people in numismatics. Salt o' the earth true blue Midwestern just plain nice man. But I think he spoke for too many people in his Buzz piece. I think he imagined a great deal more unanimity on this issue than there is. I know that Steve Roach is aware of how split the community is on the Langbord issue. David is in for an eye-opener in my opinion. Doesn't make him evil or stupid, just not with his finger on the pulse as well as he thought.

March is as certain as anything in life ever can get. January will require a little creativity. The beginning of a new legislative session, but sometimes they just recess until the Governor has his budget address ready. Depends on events between now and then, especially elections around the state on November 8. My boss is safe, but we don't know who else won't be back. If a lot of other committee chairs fall, I could be learning a whole new set of lobbyists, err, "stakeholders". Oh joy.

If a majority party status should flip (unlikely but possible), it'll be "Katy, bar the door." My workload will suddenly triple, until we can get more staff hired. Some stuff only the majority staff needs to do.

Thank you the kind words, Kurt, and for the generous description of me as a journalist. I am very proud of the work that Matt and I have done and will continue to do, but I consider myself an "info-tainer" more than a journalist.

Steve Roach has suggested that I use my pulpit as a journalist more often, I have been toying with ways of accomplishing this.

I think you're being a little modest. You already do great news aggregation. That puts you on par with most radio stations already. You do great original feature work. The only step between you and full journalism is getting news makers to clue you in directly. You need to get on news distribution lists. A little ad or other sponsorship revenue wouldn't hurt.

Tell Matt I got my coins from his EBay auction. Sweet coins. As they say, "I'll be back." Well and accurately photographed. He's been added to my trusted seller list, which is NOT big.

I don't know if that's a compliment to me, or a slap at Mr. Ryssdal, but I thank you, Ken.
