We do. The forum software, however, is not "intelligent" enough yet to automatically alert us whenever a topic that is already being discussed elsewhere is brought up again in a different topic. Topics merged.

Gentlemen and ladies - this thread started out with some very stimulating provocative discussion on legal discourse, it devolved into personal attacks betwixt esteemed members of this forum, with grammar correction and diatribes about other individuals in the hobby.

In essence what could have been a valuable discussion eroded into a ridiculous discourse that would have been even pushing it on Partisanlines.

I appreciate GD and Desertgem and Chrisild moderating this thread without having yet pulled the plug on it - I hope that you can stay on track and continue to discuss the coins and the legal aspect of them and veer away from personal attacks.

Oh. I'm just going off the gold merc debacle. There were a dozen threads about that monstrosity going for weeks. Thanks for the merger

There may still be more topics about this case; just let us know. Merged a few - and since willieboyd2's post was the first one, his topic title is the subject. The posts from the others ("Langbord Case FINALLY Decided Correctly!" / "The legal battle for the ten 1933 gold eagles rages on") are of course all here. :)

Wow. I stepped away for a couple of weeks a while back. When I left it seemed everyone other than me was in love with the gold Mercs. I missed the transition. Wha' happened?

in a word, Kurt... too many flippers, not enough buyers

Not all of us. I'm passing on the entire series.

Can't say I'm surprised, but then again I'm biased. One flipper is one too many for my tastes.

Hey Kurt. If you desire one, HSN has them for $499. Of course, you get the famous redwood presentation box with it.:yack:

Careful there my friend. I like OGP a lot. You can HAVE the slab. Wait, that's redwood under that paint job? Huh. Who knew?

I wonder if they were originally going to issue the alleged "quarter" at ANA, but re-read my screed after the gold Kennedy cluster-thingy. I know for sure they changed the original plan last year for an ANA show release.

I think that even the buyers were disappointed on the gold Mercs.
It seems that the whole "we're going to make them the same size as the original coins" thing was kind of important to the people who wanted one.

The fact that this was not possible wasn't disclosed until right before the items went on sale, and many buyers were disappointed.

Now there seems to be a lag in release dates for the two sister coins, the Standing Liberty Quarter and Walking Liberty Half Dollar, and frankly, I wonder if they will ever be coined, let alone, released.

more to follow, I am sure...

It's a different time in the case and that's why it was started . The big question here is : " Will The Highest Court In The Lands, ( Supreme Court ) now here this case " ..

    Not this Supreme Court ;)

Yep. Filing a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari is certain. I'd be amazed if it were granted. There are cases that the Court might normally take that it presently won't while down one Justice.

As it now stands, it almost requires 5 votes to even take a case. They aren't going to clog their docket with potential 4-4 cases. It accomplishes nothing.

I think this case has only been at the state level ?

No. It's been at the federal level. The high Court is the only option remaining. And the Supremes have unfettered rights to decide whether to hear an appeal. Only a small fraction of requests are granted each year.

Wow Mike! If it comes to pass that way, I'm going to nominate you for a big honkin' NLG award next year at Denver. What a scoop, you, you, you ... journalist, you.
