    Picture is over-compressed, so it's hard to tell what I'm seeing at all, but it looks like environmental damage. Something got stuck on the coin, then something else ate away at the parts that weren't covered.

    Looks like chemical damage. What does the reverse look like?

    From what I can see in the photo the coin looks to have something like maybe glue dried up on it.
