Here is my latest acquisition. At $20, I couldn't pass. While it is not a true doubled die, I still like the look of the shelf doubling on the date. Enjoy!
A very nice error coin. Defective planchet would be a good description for it. Is it under weight? I noticed that a Blakesley-like effect appears opposite of the delamanation, there is missing denticals on the both sides. Interesting indeed. Thanks for posting.
Would you mind explaining what the difference is between a lamination error and a defective planchet? Are they the same, more or less? My scale is not great, but it comes up as 4.4 grams (only one decimal point).
Yes, More or less. To call it a Delamination error is a more desciptive nomeclature. Defective planchet is more of a catagory it falls into. At a less weight of ~.27 I would think it was cut from the end of the strip of coin metal. Which is also the area known for this type error. It is a prize. IMO
Lamination is just a more descriptive term denoting impurities in the alloy causing it to flake or come apart.
