Only 20 folks waiting at the opening but an hour later lots of activity. So far, the dealers I've talked with say the show is OK. Not bad, not great but just OK. One thing I was surprised to hear was that the price of gold is so high right now that $20 Liberties graded MS-63 are selling at 98% BELOW MELT! I bought some Trump rounds for $36 @ as gifts. The coin shops in Sarasota sell out of them as soon as they come in.
I'm a $20 certified buyer @ the quoted price with 100%, no neutrals, Positive feedback. Pass my richfoss@localnet.com e-mail address around to anyone wanting to sell!
I’ve seen these offers of old gold $10 and $20 coins at slightly less than melt. It used to indicate that a correction was in the offing. Will history repeat its self? I don’t know. I know I was able get 100% of melt for a neighbor for American gold eagles not that long ago when the gold prices were about $100 an ounce less. I saw an offer of 7% under melt for a type set of Mexican gold coins. The dealer would have done better if I had gotten serious.
I would if I were not working for a grading company at the show. Maybe you could go to "Dealers helping dealers" with your offer.
I would classify the show as slow. There was a big spurt for three hours and then trailed off. I was busy then not and then busy again. We are having our usual good but not great (800+ submissions) show. I had one of those people with a clad dime alteration (one side shaved down to the copper with a still clad ear showing who insisted his research proved it was genuine. The just refuse to accept the truth and don't care to get educated. Thankfully he decided to move on and not show me the rest of his box of treasures! I got to write 2 columns between customers. Tomorrow I expect the same, The kids will be coming and that's a good thing.
What do these dunces say when they are proven wrong ? Do they finally realize that MAYBE spending a few hours a year on this stuff doesn't make them as smart as someone who does this for a living ?
It really boils down to understanding the minting process. Most of them can't comprehend it, or just plain don't want to.
Put me into the second group. I really haven't put in 5 minutes of understanding the die process and pairing of them. You have any links to any good youtube videos on that? Reading without seeing just doesn't work for me. I need to see examples. It's like anything else with me, don't get the hands dirty, you still don't understand it.
