Afsakið… Fyrirgefðu ... Your complaint to Krause probably is just annoying to them, not informative. I do not work for Krause. I am not a customer. I just know bit about the cataloguing from once having had the same kinds of questions years ago about another line of coinage. It happens that a prepackaged set has less demand than any of the individual coins. It also happens that the individual coins will go to separate markets where the demands are higher in aggregate. We see this in US coins, for instance, where collectors who pursue Date and Mint of a single series, must get their San Francisco coins from Mint (or Proof) sets. My own interest years ago was in the coins of Tibet. Coins that were obviously rare were priced in the same ranges as modern commemoratives -- East and West Germany both, for instance -- or common 19th century coins from Italy, for instance. The answer is simple: demand. Demand drives prices. It is an axiom of economics that demand is more important than supply. We speak too easily of "supply and demand" but they are not equally weighted. Three Icelandic proof 1961 gold 500 K coins is all it takes to meet the demand. If you think otherwise, buy them all and see if you get rich overnight. Krause -- or any other catalogue -- only knows prices reported to them. Collectors can pay any price, but if the sale is not recorded and made public, Krause is limited. They do have their own long list of experts published in the fronts of their catalogs -- a mere 100 or so people, again, buying and selling, talking and listening. If you have better knowledge, feel free to use the profits from those three gold coins to launch your own numismatic information enterprise. Some people keep their knowledge to themselves. Other people share it. If you know more than Krause, then you have the right to consider yourself an expert. Sjáumst!
