I have 9 or so more in the same die stage. I pulled these to the side for a possible FS. I think there may be one or two. 5FS I just haven't had time to look and photo, I have my fingers crossed.
Might start a new thread. Some of these are very close to PCGS standards for a FS Nickel. Thanks for looking. Here is one last one.
I am looking at some 1964-D nickels along with other coins, for a friend that her grandfather had saved. I’m still looking through them but he must have put away before it went into many pockets. As I said, he had several so can’t post all. Hope it’s ok to post. Yours are very nice. I have not found any full steps but who knows may have one in the bunch.
Regarding the ‘64 D specimens, I’d put more of my focus towards DDOs and DDRs. It is very difficult to find 1964 specimens with Full Steps. Remember: these dies were still coining 1964 nickels into 1967.
Love to hear that kinda stuff. I want to find a nice 1965-1967 nickel that is a keeper. Alway liked them years
By the 60's the master dies had been used so heavily that Full steps are very rare for the 60's. The master hub of 1940 was still in use. That includes the late years, 68, 69 and 70. If you find one get it verified and slabbed. PCGS has only 1 slabbed 69D FS, You can read the auction details below in the link. Sold for $33,000 just a couple years ago in a MS65FS. https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/item/1969-d-5c-fs/84082/-2535717270017962509
I'm picturing the steps being worn off the hub, then, and wondering how there are any 1960s circulation strikes with full steps...?
My understanding is that Congress establishes what denominations are to be made and how much/many. In 1964, the P and D requirements were tall and could not be accomplished during the year. Since the requirements could not be met, they carried over to the subsequent years. This also is reflected in the lower mintage requirements for nickels in 1965, 1966 and 1967. They needed to split time to complete the 1964 production. What is interesting is whether the 1964 nickel in one’s hand was coined in 1964 or in 1967. The 1914 golf ducat I found could have been coined then or in the 40 years after (they didn’t change the date and reused the tool). Tool stage might be the only way to guesstimate when. I speculate but I figure that if FS are found on 1964 nickels, they are probably 1964 nickels.
Not sure how many working dies were made that had a complete hubbing. The bigger problem in the late 60's and early 70's was the use of the nickel. It played a big part in the economy.
Way to stop in Pam, how are your roses doing? I wasn't prepared to clone the rose bush for Mom, but I have been bringing her every long stem and rose that has bloomed this year. They are ready to bloom again.
Awww that is sweet! I know she enjoys them. They are doing pretty good. The heat has taken a toll. I don’t think I posted the last ones I took pics of so I may have posted. Going talk to them today, lol, so I will post more. Good luck with yours.
