Modern methods are ignord only at the Peril of the nations coin supply.
this is not 1850 any longer. The Mint has always taken advantage of technological improvements. I see no reason for this to change accept that the old designs need to get out of the way first.

I for one would like to see some new coins enter circulation.

I was born in 1981, and i've only seen the same basic coins since.

    The Jefferson nickel since 1938
    The roosie dime since 1946
The washington quarter since 1932 (statehood quarters are nice, but same basic quarter really)
    kennedy half since 1964
    Lincoln Memorial cent since 1959

I've gotten to see the dollar coin change a few times, but i never see them circulate so i don't really count them.

The early 1900's were a good time with the design changes being frequent. In the span of 40 years you could see 3 different dimes, nickels, quarters and halfs come to be in your pocket.

WHen the statehood quarters are done, i beleive the washington quarter will resume it's old shape. Same goes for the Sac dollars once the presidential series is done.

Only change i've gotten to see is the nickel with it's new profile design, but if you ask me, it's kinda ugly.

OUCH! That made me feel my age. Especially since I celebrate a birthday next week and moving to the near end of my 40s.

But, it's true. I can remember when I was 1st starting out in the early 1960s, you could still go to the bank and ask for things like Silver Dollars. I used to go to the bank with my folks on Fridays. I would bring a portion of my allowance savings, to buy coins. After a while the tellers knew me, and what I liked to collect. I got Morgan and Peace dollars, Walkers, Buffalos, SLQ's, Mercurys and wheaties by the roll! But for some reason, Jefferson War Nickels were very scarce. I think my Grandfathers generation of the time hoarded them, and some day vast hoards are going to show up on the market in BU and GEM UNC.!

Those of us who lived through this heyday of coinage should count ourselves lucky. This will never happen again. Hell, there are even whole generations of kids, and some adults, who have never seen a Half Dollar or even an SBA...

About 8yrs ago when I started at my Movie Theatre as a box office attendant, we had raised our rates. We went from $6.25 to $6.50 (were at $10.00 now.) Because of the rate increase we went through quarters like there was no tomorrow. We taxed the local bank supply to the point where we had to use Kennedy Halves for change. I can remember handing these to kids and them asking what it was, and if it was real or a token!!!! This happened again in 1999 with the influx of SBA's just before the glut of the SAC's.

    Thanks for letting me ramble...

OK, buddy. You're welcome to your opinions, but when you start with personal attacks, because others disagree with you. that's when it stops.
