  3. Actually, quite entertaining too, Farstaff. However, I need to signoff and get some project work done for a client. Enjoy your weekend.

  4. And Zack, please try to stay away from the hemlock brew. It's bad for your heart.

Pretty much anything in this thread which deals directly with SGS has gone unaddressed.

You should probably call him Midas since his name isn't "Zack".

completely OT, but isn't Zack usually spelled Zach (Zachary)?

    Not to my knowledge

I can legally ask questions. I can legally state facts. I can legally point to sales on Ebay and now Overstock.com that show the exact same coins being offered for sale in two different auction venues. I can legally provide links to where numerous sellers are using the same pictures to sell what are supposedly different items. I can post the accepted grading standards with a caveat that grading is subjective and not all coins graded are as they are stated to be on the slabs. I can link to pictures of coins for sale that show obvious damage and ASK if that coin is an MS-70 perfect coin. I will not tell a single person not to buy an SGS slabbed coin. I will not interfere with the sale of an SGS slab to an educated consumer. I will only endeavour to educate and that is my right as long as I use fact to educate.

I also want to clear up any possibility of confusion as Cherrypicker and I are two different people . We both happen to be named Bill.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Steve,
You are obviously an intelligent person. You state that you are a legitimate coin dealer. Tell me then how an intelligent legitimate coin dealer can repeatedly and knowingly deceive the public and think they are doing no wrong???? If you are a legitimate coin dealer then you must have a basic knowledge of grading. Enough knowledge to know when a coin is "perfect" or not. If you are a legitimate coin dealer then you know that SGS is flooding the market with hundreds if not thousands of slabbed over-graded coins to deceive the public which an honest dealer or collector would not stand for. Whether you are tied-in with SGS or Abon is irrelevant. What is relevant is that you as a coin dealer know that you are promoting, advertising and selling these misleading items but yet you sell them as MS-70 coins even when you (as a intelligent, legitimate dealer) know they aren't. If you are the legitimate honest dealer you say, then you would offer to pay the slabbing fees and buy back any coin that comes back otherwise when submitted to PCGS, NGC or ANACS. Sound stupid? Well you don't have to worry about this because since you are legitimate and honest you know that you are selling MS-70 "perfect coins" and are not deceiving anyone. Right??

Do you play those instruments Steve ? & if so does the China version sound and perform EXACTLY like the European version ? If they are within the specified standards of whatever they should sound like than thats great.
But by this post you do agree that SGS is overgrading coins -.Take a look does a SGS coin compare and look like it has been graded by ANA standards.
It sounds like you just dont care to me-

Do you feel good about the quick buck you are making on people who dont know any better .

awww, he's gone now, his little green "online" light has just turned blue... of well maybe he can circle the wagons and have some more worthless things to say next week.

Actually, what I'm hoping is that he'll get the point we're making and start listing his SGS slabs as what they are, with a warning that SGS grading standards don't agree with the industry standard, but I'm not holding my breath!

I should would hate to see you blue in face and passed out on the floor. An apple is an apple and an orange is an orange and nothing is going to change that nor his positions.

Good News! An ANA Representative, highly placed, called me back today and said they are very aware of this issue. They ask that I not elaborate on the conversation but said the wheels of progress are turning in regards to eBay.
I expressed my opinion that the arch villain in this case is ABON aka SGS and that the other sellers of SGS products may have just been duped by their ( ABON ) advertisements and are trying to get rid of the coins they bought.

Good news indeed, now let us see if ANA will follow the desires of their membership and truly not just selling their name to ebay. It is pass time for the ANA to take action:headbang:

SGS GRADED MS 70 1992-D KENNEDY HALF DOLLAR

COLLECTORS UNIVERSE PCGS VALUES THIS COIN @ $1200.00 IN JUST MS 68 GRADE! VALUES CAN BE VIEWED AT LINK BELOW.

    Item number: 8422999177

I can't help but wonder something here. They are using pricing from PCGS. Should they not play by the same rules (Grading standards) ? To me thats like saying Gold is at 700.00 an ounce, here is the same thing in silver for only 20 bucks. On the SGS label. it says MS.. is that Mint state or maybe they have a different meaning that I wont post here. Maybe since SGS dont follow the basic guidelines set for grading. they have developed their OWN grading. It starts at 60 and goes to 130? Kind of like what AMD has done with Intel.. its not a speed thing, its a model number now for them. ARGhhhh.. Still trying to acquire an SGS slab here to take to Abbotts in Michigan. Deceptive. GO MIDAS!

Because people were finding out that StevesGiftShop was ripping people off, so he had to change it.

I think Ebay not cracking down on self-slabbers like SGS, is similar to Coin World turning a blind eye on their advertisers, who sell overgraded raw coins. Both venues need to hold their sellers to a higher code of ethics.

On a different note, isn't "SGS" a registered Trademark of a pretty big company? I didn't think anyone else was allowed to use that logo/TM.
