    Questions for Steve:
This is a quote from your website, for those of you who don't know. Steve, do you back this statement up now after you've seen the opinions of a select group of coin collectors?
There's a lot of red up there  Is this your opinion of how a "professional business" should be operating?
A lot of people are reading this thread-not only on CoinTalk-but also on eBay.
Has eBay sent you any warnings about SGS and selling their products under misleading descriptions. Do you know you're doing this? I hope you can take some time out of your truly 'busy' day to answer these-
    Bill

Although this is a different seller, I still felt like posting it because I guess that SGS has no shame. It's one thing (to me at least) to sell grossly over graded modern coins but to try and pawn off a Morgan at MS-68 is something else (especially when the coin grades about MS-63 or so in reality).

Anyway, I thought it was noteworthy. Again, this is a different seller than the others mentioned, but it is just another fine example of SGS's dishonesty.

I think this thread has probably served its purpose and informed many folks about the dangers and risks associated with buying from companies like SGS and of course BOTH SIDES of this discussion are prohibited from using coarse language.. There will probably always be bottom feeding losers in our community that try to scam newcomers out of as much as they can get away with. I guess you could look at it as just part of the education process if you want to or you could get angry at those that want to cast a dark shadow over the whole hobby and react to them in any number of negative ways.

There is a lot of money to be made buying and selling money and to believe that everyone is suddenly going to be honest and fair is just unrealistic. It is a complete waste of time arguing with those elements that are profiting by their deceit because it simply isn't in their best interest to stop behaving as sharks and treating people fairly. It's just the ugly side of capitalism we all have to live with. Greed is not only one of the seven deadly sins it is and integral component of our money dominated society. Get used to it.

Like I said, I think this thread has served the purpose of informing many folks about the scum sucking sewer dwellers that can be found in the ranks of numismatics but is only serving the purpose of driving people away from the hobby at this point out of fear of becoming the next victim. All the names have called, all the insults have been leveled, and all the accusations and counteraccusations have made public. This thread is now just a sniping contest and should die a sudden and unceremonious death.

    What do you say moderator?

I think you'll find little benefeit from having your store linked to in a thread where you are shown to be an unabashed scam artist.

I did a search on morgan ms-68 and this auction came up- 8426192697. The heading says it's ms68, but in the body he says he doesn't claim it to be so. Looks pretty damaged to me! Not SGS but I thought I'd throw it in there.

I agree with Scotty-the subject has kind of changed since Midas' original post. However-DON'T CLOSE IT-I think it still needs to be open. I doubt Steve will stay a whole lot longer. Like Bill (foundinrolls) said-new things are still coming to the surface and it would be interesting to find out what those things are. Plus, I'm curious as to whether or not he'll answer my question post #220 . Like I said-I doubt Steve will stay much longer and after that the thread will eventually die out. But don't kill it just because people are getting old with it-but please leave the language outside-there are some people who don't care for it. This would still be the perfect place to talk about SGS when the ANA or eBay or Yahoo closes them down...don't you think?

  13. First of all, no one is going to shut down anything or anyone -- not you, not ANA, not the FBI, nor the Secret Service, etc., etc., [ahem] -- and if you buy into that line of "fluffy stuffy" and believe that, you are believing fairy tale and you are mistaken.

Secondly, you guys entertain me with such perspectives as the "my way or the highway" [facsist] approach. Keep in mind that you won't win anyone over by coarse lingoes, or use of off-colour accusations, or the like. On that note, let's see: You guys have used the word "scum" "scam" "shame" "sham" and other forms of obloquy. Moroever, there are plenty of "accusatory" words that don't start with other letters of the alphabet".

If you are given to four-letter words of colour, there are about three thousand to choose, so don't waste the language on just a few choice selections.

In reply, I am acquiainted with the general tone of this board as being "brash" "bashing" "brazen" and "brusk" "behaviors" and yet, if you enjoy the name calling game, that sort of trashy language used goes no further than the round file. It does not impress me, and it won't change a thing. If anything, the rougher you get, the more entrenched I will be.

For the brand SGS, get used to it. If you don't like the brand, simply don't buy it.

If you want to enter the murky waters of anticompetitive practices, that's another thing, and it is ill-advised. At least we have freedom of speech and freedom of trade.

If you want to be mightymouse and save the world, go buy a red cape and leap off a ten story building (scaled size of course) and don't hurt yourself, or your egos in the process.

First of all, stevesgiftshopp has given us the rare opportunity to go inside the mind of a "internet-scammer-slabber-seller". The previous post demonstrates this!

How he got involved with Aboncom/SGS we may never know. How he was able to use the same stock SGS 70 photos that Aboncom uses...well, that is between Mr. S.G.S. and the outfit from Ohio.

What the sellers of these "self-slabbing" MS70/PR70 coins are trying to convince the numismatic community is that if you post negative statements about Star Grading Service (SGS), then you are entering the "waters of anti-competitive practices".

If a person purchased, or is thinking about purchasing a SGS "packaged" coin whereby the forum tells that person they are making (made) a huge mistake, according to Mr. SGS, that is entering the "waters of anti-competitive practices".

What happens if a newbie joins the forum and links us to an auction house asking us if a 1909-S VDB Lincoln is real? After review of the pictures and all, the forum responds that it is a fake. Is that entering the "waters of anti-competitive practices" too?

Here's my another insight into your mind:
Freedom of speach yes! This forum is a fine example of this. Freedom to sell and mispresent anything we want??...Heck No!!

Earlier in the thread, an excellent analogy was brought up:
Go ahead and site anti-trust legislation laws. Go ahead and talk about Enron or drug companies and what they do. Go ahead and try to divert attention from S.G.S. Go ahead and try to convince the public what I and others are doing is nothing more than "fascism." Go ahead and cry to eBay everytime I post about S.G.S. Go ahead and get me booted again, but I for one will make sure as many people in the numismatic community know about the likes of you and other "self-slabbers" so they can enjoy this hobby...not be ripped off from the likes of S.G.S. and their MS70 / PR70 "packaged" coins!

I would encourage the forum to pass the word about "self-slabbers" like SGS/Aboncom...through forums like this, to shows, to clubs, to all!!

Midas-every one of your posts about SGS have been upfront, honest, and un-relenting :) But I keep hearing responses from Steve like:
Yeah-that pretty much sums it all up
You're the one with the most edited remarks-so don't go and try to shift the blame and make you look like the all-American scholar by quoting scripture, using big words (or the thesaurus), parables, quotes, and then go and say 'edited, edited, edited'. It kind of cancels out all the things you said before-not that I believed a word of it anyway.
It's true that the overall facist image could be paired with 'my way or the highway'. But it's also associated with eliminating all threats to yourself (complaining to eBay about Midas), deceiving everyone whenever possible (your descriptions on eBay), and using blatant remarks to cover up past actions (you on CoinTalk).
Now, when I think about democracy-I think of freedom of speech, freedom of trade (true, we all have it-but with certain limitations), and the right to purchase one thing and not get something else. Now, with that said-What kind of image are you portraying?
And you still haven't answered my questions from post #220

The moderators here ARE allowed to, can and have shut down threads, censored posts, and ban members that don’t play by the forums rules. Your bellicose pronouncements and know-it-all attitude impress no one here.

You seem to use the word “obloquy” quite a bit. I guess you learned a new word one day and can’t resist using it again, and again, and again. It actually means, “Strongly condemnatory or abusive language or utterance”. How do words like scam, shame, and sham constitute strongly condemnatory or abusive language especially when they describe you perfectly? Scum almost fits into the definition but to clarify, the actual term used to describe you and your ethical discrepancies was “pond scum” and I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize…to pond scum for the comparison. I think the real reason for your defensive posture is that your ethics have been dragged out into the light of day and have been found lacking. You apparently have a more sanguine picture of yourself than the rest of can imagine.

And I’m sure they’d all be just as applicable to your character.

The general “tone” of this forum is quite a bit more friendly without you in it believe me. As a longtime member here, I would know the truth of this statement far better than you. People don’t generally come here and bring as much consternation and vitriolic rhetoric as you have right from your first post. I think you carried over your brawl from the previous forum to this one because of your love of arguing and your incessant need to stroke your ego and see yourself as always right.

Now you get it! After all these posts you finally get it. And by inference, don’t buy anything from people selling SGS products, like YOU!

I think that I’d have to think long and hard before taking advice from someone with the ethical vacuum you have proven to possess.
You have an ironclad firm grasp of the obvious. Your insights enlighten us all.

The last vestige of a scoundrel. Nothing so grandiose occupies our thoughts as saving the world, just our beloved hobby, and to shine a light on those that seek to exploit others that share our passion for numismatics. You are a fringe element that darts in biting off as much as can be carried and then retreating to the darkness of the rim waiting to gorge yourself again as soon as a new victim can be suckered close enough to your territory. Forgive those of us swimming out here in the light for loathing your existence. The nature of the parasite is to be despised by those that they feed on.

Please don’t bother to respond if your ego will allow it. I find your rhetoric dull.

  17. Now that was a really neat diatribe. Mikey, (Mr. Muffler), still has plenty of puff n' stuff.
