i recently purchase a kentucky token i love the coinage its a great pre modern coin for its era, my question is does any body know precisely how many where minted?? Cause no book I have has a mintage listing \
Lancashire 59 was a general circulation issue and not something made specifically for a merchant so there are no mintage records. It is listed as scarce so almost certainly less than a ton of copper (103,040) but probably more than a hundredweight (5,152). From as frequently as I see them I would think probably 4 to 6 hundredweight. (20 to 30,000)
The manufacturers. They had records of what was ordered, who ordered them, the weight of copper used, we know the weight of the coins and from that you could determine the mintages. The records from a great many of the manufacturers are still around. Arthur W Waters compiled a lot of this information and published it back in 1954, Notes on Eighteenth Century Tokens. It was printed by Seaby Publications and also by Spinks of London. Not the easiest Monograph to find. I have two originals and several photocopies.
Hey conder, it's a beauty got it for less than $300, and I was like cool beans. It's a $1000+ coin even a a cleaned coin it still holds a decent rarity Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
I don't have a digital version of it. I can try and create one this weekend if I get time from one of my photocopies, but my photocopy is missing one page. if I can track down one of my originals I'll replace that page.
