When you hit your year mark, I'd be interested in hearing a summary of your findings.

I plan to provide a summary so you guys can tell me how you think I did. Based on the posts I've read in this and other threads I can already tell that I haven't done as well as some of you, but better than others. Maybe my results will prove to be "typical." I figure I'll get through maybe another 150 rolls before my year lapses. I might slow down a little after that.....or not! :)

Wow! I can't believe it. Just found my first Barber, a well-worn 1900-S.

Have been having such terrible experience with repeat bags, I was about to throw this batch back as well, then a quick 67, a very nice 64, then the Barber.

    I'm definitely slowing down now.

Nice! A 1900 barber! That gives me hope. I 've searched a couple of 100 rolls this week and came up with a handful of 64's through 69's. Nothing to write home about. One '71 proof and 2-2004-P's. Kind of a bad week all in all.

I did try other area banks and one teller only had a roll and a half total. So she spread them out on the counter and let me pick out the ones I wanted. Nice lady I'd say.

Banks. One bag equals two boxes. No rolls. A lot quicker and easier. I always try to get bags, so I don't have to deal with machine-wrapped rolls, but sometimes have to settle for boxes or what I can get. It is my understanding some banks are moving bags by weight, rather than using counters, rolls, and boxes. Has to be a lot cheaper for them.

But, having said that, I have often found more keepers in one roll than in several consecutive bags. For example, in the bag with the Barber were only three other keepers.

I just picked up $1040 and cracked the first $40 while eating lunch. Had a 68 and a 66. there were a couple of 01's and 98's but mostly cir 70's. Have to wait until tonight to check the rest. They are bagged so I couldn't just crack them open.

Wow do I want to leave work right now.

I always go through halves at my teller station. Believe me, I figured out real quick which of the bank's customers happen to also be collectors. I'll have a stack of silver setting by the computer and customers will casually come up and ask if they can buy them. I politely say "no" and they usually grin like a little kid that got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. I'm actually suprised at the number of collectors that I've met in this way. One of whom decided to order boxes through the bank after I let him know what exactly I was doing. I just hope that he doesn't beat to any treasure!

Well out of 2080 halves I found three, count them three. Silver halves. I think one of the tellers is swiping the silver when they crack their rolls. At my bank they will roll the halves untill they get $1000 then they crack the rolls and put the $1000 in a bag for shipping.

I'll post the other numbers as soon as I finish sorting the nice and news.

Found what I guess is a 1964-P Kennedy proof. It is not absolutely flawless, but close. Probably about as close as you would expect to find in circulation.

ok. just got done.... I hit the mother load!

out of $600 face value kennedys i got:

    3 1964 90%
    112 40% silver

    heres the break down:
    1 1964
    2 1964-D
    7 1965
    9 1966
    36 1967
    43 1968
    17 1969

yay! ;) i think i did pretty well...
from my calculations on the ask price of silver the 40% should be worth $1 each... and i will accept no less.

well, MAYBE .90 a piece. i think its sick that a dealer will only pay .60 for a coin with a dollar worth of silver in it, i know they need to make a profit but that is just not right.

I may just keep them all since my total investment is only 60 bucks ;)

Feel your pain. Almost missed finding the 1900-S Barber half because I had just gone through two pre-searched bags, and thought I was working on three in a row. Found the Barber as one of four silvers in 6,000 halves. Just get your next bag and keep looking, if you're into it. The luck can change quickly.

I'm always listenting to something on the net, have the TV on mute, and keeping up with this and other forums. As a fairly recent empty-nester, I find this much more relaxing than dealing with mindless TV and commercials. Like with reading, no referees to throw the flag on you or blow the whistle [except my wife occasionally].
