    machined doubling

Besides the usual 1964 to 1969 finds I have come upon around two dozen "machined double" reverses.
The words on the reverse are doubled. Or for lack of a picture it looks like shadowing of the letters.
I found three 1776-1976 obverse machined doubling coins where the dates are shadowed.
I brought this stack of Kennedys to a coin show yesterday. A few dealers looked at them and the verdict was they are common and worth 50 cents.
Don't know if that's true, it seems they would be worth more than fifty cents to someone.
Anyone else find similar Kennedys and do you think they are worth anything?
    Comments?

My first 50 rolls :) They didnt have a box- but a lot of rolls... My fisrt silver was the third coin!! So in just 5 rolls I get 1 1964, 3 silver clads and 2 rolls of 2002UNC. Next 45 rolls ( same type, most with remark 5/19/2006 :computer: ) brought nothing. Nothing at all, damned ! And the coin teller already hates me!

Those are some nice finds- two whole rolls of 2002! That would be frustrating with the teller, but- better to hate you and still give you coins than not.

I'm currently trying to get more halves from a local bank where I've gotten some fairly amazing rolls, yesterday I got 36 40% halves in $200 worth. Only trouble is, they don't want to run out of rolls (I'm not a customer there) so they don't want to give me the remaining approx. $300 they have. I'm thinking of bringing in some machine wrapped rolls from somewhere else (which probably don't have nearly as much silver) and exchanging them, but I'm not sure if they'll tell me to get lost...

Got my second Barber today from roll searching- a pretty worn 1900 (P). Still glad to have it! At least I have something to show for the $3,000 worth I went through this week...

for my birthday, i got 2 rolls of almost uncirculated P and D 1976 halves.

Are those anything to hold on to? I would sure think so....

I would be suprised if they ever wind up being worth much- after 1971, it's the most common date I seem to find, many in very nice shape. I don't save them. On the other hand, it's only $20 and a pretty nice gift to keep!

I read about 30% of the posts in this topic and it seems that only those coins older than 1970 are worth keeping.

In 1991 I picked up 8 rolls of halves at an american bank in Germany. I had never opened them until tonight after reading these posts. I just had to see what I had. It turns out that all of the coins were from 1971 to 1979. Two of the rolls are unc 1979 coins (at least I think they are by the look of them). The other rolls also have a mix of unc as well and the rest are very lite in any marks.

Are these coins worth keeping at all?

Thanks! Speaking of jealousy, check this out: Friday, I went to two banks on the way to a wedding. First one, got 28 rolls, and there were 148 40% silver clad halves. Then, next bank- got 20 rolls, and- got a solid roll of walking liberty halves (all 1943), and another almost solid roll (18 out of 20) along with 4 Franklins in a different roll. Best finds for me, ever!

I wouldn't bother keeping any of them, unless you are starting a collection of kennedys- there seem to be many nice halves from the 70's out there.

$3000 is a lot in face value, but it's only 6,000 coins- $500 in nickels is 10,000 coins- _and_ the dates are smaller- that sounds like a lot of work to me!

Finally finished my two boxes of halves. 1st box was great. 3- 90% silver, 45- 40% silver, & a 97S. 2nd box not so great. 1- 90% silver, 2- 40% silver, & a 99S. Not bad combined. Once I get rid of some of these halves will have to try 2 more.
