Lawdogct great job. You got alot of older silver. Any time you get more 90% then 40% its great but when you get more Walkers, Franklins, and 90% Kennedys it jack pot time. congrats

Thanks to Moen and lawdog, I got the magicians coin to pop apart. Put it in the freezer for about a week, and then threw it down on an old coffee table. Worked on about the third try. I would have bet against it.

Well I went through two boxes last night. I can sum them up in one word. DEPRESSING! The first box contained just one worn 1967, and the second box had a single 1966, but I'm pretty sure that its from a SMS. Hopefully tonights boxes will be better.

I have never found a 87 where do you get so many halves the banks around here don't get them very often I have looked through every bank in the area.

We (those of us who regularly search boxes of halves) have found banks that will order $500 face value boxes for us from the Federal Reserve.

I went through the my last four of this weeks boxes last night:
    1964 Kennedy
    11 40% Kennedys
    1964 Proof (my first)
    2001-S Proof

Much better than the first two boxes. By the way, I've been finding a lot, reletively speaking, of 1987's recently. I'm now up to 6 1987-P along with a 1987-D. Best of luck to all you roll searchers.

It took me a while, but I finally established good working relationships with several banks in my town. They order me what I want and don't complain too hard about the returns. I try to respect their wishes and don't stray too far from our arrangement. Everyone stays pretty happy that way. Knowing the head teller helps a lot too.

Hey where would I get the mintages to Kennedy's. I am not sure what to save and what to return to the bank I am sure finding a lot of 1971 through 1974

Buy the RedBook at any coin store, online (jpscorner.com), or even your local bookstore. It has the mintages for all coins, not only halfs and has a lot of info. on the subject. Every coin collectore needs one, it's a handy book-
1971-1974 halfs are pretty common. I usually keep any silver halfs (40% 1965-1970 and 90% 1964), any proofs (s mintmark), or any that have not been issued for circualtion. Good Luck Hunting!---

Coinfacts.com also has really good information on mintage numbers, along with some other info. I agree with you though. Whenever I get a box of halves it seems like a LARGE amount of them are 1974-Ds. But none ever turn out to be DDO :headbang: .

I have found quite a few silver Halves but I went through every half in the are probably 10K worth I found one that had a clip out of it. No DD or anything worth much but I really enjoy looking through them. I talked to a teller on Friday she said she could order me a box so I hope that works.
    Thanks for the infor

Hey in the Coinfact it says no Halves where minted in 1999 whats up with that any idea wht the mintages are for that year

Yeah, I don't know why Coinfact's mintage numbers are about 7 years behind. Their info is pretty good usually up to 2000 or so though.

I take spells where I go the bank and ask for rolls. Do any of you have any dirty looks when you exchange rolls for different rolls?? Most times I just tell them I am collector, and they usually smile and say ok. Other times they have that puzzled look on their face!! :)

I never ask for just rolls unless they have recently had some old codger come in and drop off a bunch of old coins from a coffee can. I have begun just having my credit union order me four boxes a week from the Fed. It saves all the dirty looks because they are providing a service that they already know about. I return the coins to my other bank mostly because I don't want to get the same coins back and they have better and faster coin counting machines.
As an aside, I finally had one bank tell me that they would charge me ten cents a roll if I didn't have an account with them. We don't see each other anymore.

Has anyone ever had a contact in the bank who would call them when an old codger came in?? :) or would that be unethical?? lol
