    1964 half dollars (and anything earlier) are 90% silver, 10% copper;

1965-1970 have an inner core that is 20% silver, 80% copper, with an outer cladding of 80% silver, 20% copper (overall they're 40% silver by weight).

1971 to present they have an inner core that is pure copper with outer cladding that is 75% copper, 25% nickel (this is the same compositon that dimes and quarters have had since 1965).

Some bicentennials were made in silver clad (40% silver) for collectors, and the silver proof sets have 90% silver half dollars in them.

You guys are killing me. Bengals311 and lawdogct great pulls. I still haven't found anything older than 1964. I keep hoping to finally see a Franklin or Walker. I'll get my next box in a week and hope for the best.

My pulls from entire boxes have been pretty skimpy lately. A couple of coins per box at best. I did find something that I've never come across before. A magician's coin, or half of one anyway. I found the shell half of one that had been hollowed out but the piece that was glued into the cavity had fallen out.
It made a very funny sound when I emptied the roll onto the table. Like dropping tin on a hard surface. I may not have even noticed it if it hadn't been for the sound it made.

I had a similar experience not too long ago, with a twist.

Found both halves of a 1971 Kennedy half dollar, separately, in the same bag. It has extremely good detail. The back of the obverse is machined out. The back of the reverse looks like a real copper Mexican coin.

Only problem is I put them together, and can't get them apart.

It has to be very slightly lighter. But have shown the "coin" to others, and none of them can tell the difference. They can't believe what I'm telling them.

Maybe there is a magician out ther who will tell me how to get them apart. Naw, they never reveal how to do their tricks.

I got my first Fed box of halfs today. I usually get rolls that people return to the bank. My totals:

    3-40%
1-1988-s proof looks golden but over Kennedy's head it looks like it is chipped

I then went to a bank and got $80 in halfs.

    3-1964
    18-40%

Good day I will be getting a box every week.

I'd say just drop it on a hard surface and it oughta pop out eventually.

Searched another $500 today, all hand rolled. Not as much as last time. 9 40% and that was it. I did find a bunch of BU 96-Ds. Still need to check for DDOs.

    Haven't tried that.

    Tried that.

Maybe I'll try dropping it right after taking it out of the freezer. Doubt it will work. It had a slight click when I put it together. It's a snug fit.

Did 2002's get released for circulation?

I went through two boxes last night and got 8 40%, 1-90%, and one 2002 S silver. I have found 2002P, D, S, and S- Silver from circulation. I just wondered how rare the 02 P and D are. I've also found a 76S a month or so ago.

Does anyone here mark their coins before they give them back, so you know if you're getting the same ones back?

Is it possible to order bags of halves?

Only 2001 and older were release into circulation. After that they had to be purchased from a dealer or directly from the mint.

I don't see any point in marking coins. You are never going to get exactly the same box back anyway. So what would be the point?

I think you can order 2001 bags still.

OK....got the last 5 rolls of my "silver load" from the bank today. Got another round of strange looks and "uh-oh that guy is back again", but hey....I'll take it. Here's what I found:

    1 - 1965

    1 - 1964
    3 - 1964D

    1 - 1946
    1 - 1943
    1 - 1943D
    1 - 1942

I'll post the grand totals for the $300 searched when I get home...but its somewhere around $30 in silver.

Its be a ton O fun searchin through these....and I know I know it is NOT the norm, but that won't keep me from hoping the next box will be the same :D

Good luck to the rest of you hunters !

Great pulls Lawdog! My boxes come in on Thursday. If they're half as good as the one you got, I'll be one heck of a happy camper.

OK...did the math.....here's the totals for $260 searched:

    40% - 5
    90% - 13
    Franklins - 9
    Walkers - 11
    Barber - 1

OK....I'll stop blabbin about it....just been very exciting. Again, hope you all have the same luck sooner than later ;)
