I just ordered my first box from my local bank, and they aren't charging me any extra fees for it. They order their coins from the main branch downtown. It probably helps to get to know and be friendly with a specific teller (I use the merchant teller), they're usually happy to help! I went by seven banks last week looking for in-house half dollars and a few of them were downright rude. One teller told me (in a nasty way, as if I were wasting her time -- she's still getting paid!) "No, we don't have any because we don't deal with those coins here." I promptly informed her that now they do because I needed to change in the five rolls I had on me that I had already sorted through. Won't be trying that branch again.

I work 50 miles away from where I live so I'm hoping that if I get boxes from my local branch, I can change them in at a different bank near my work and not end up re-sorting the same box of coins!

LOL, way to go, she deserved it. In fact, I'd take all my 50C rejects back to that teller from now on. ;)

Well my 7 boxes were slightly disappointing.
    6 Walkers
    4 Franklins
    5 1964 Kennedys
    27 40% Kennedys
    2 1987

Dissappointed at walkers and franklins? I'd be exstatic! My last three boxes had 2 40%. That's dissappointing.

Wow, when you said you had all that old silver staring at you I figured you'd do better than that.

On a different subject, I went to the coin shop today to sell my recent finds and was paid 6.25 times face for the 90% coins and 2 times face for the 40% coins. Not great, but that is about what I would have gotten on eBay, but without all the eBay hassle.

Now don't get me wrong, as I'm certainly not complaining. Its just that when you see a bunch of Walkers and Franklins on top of the rolls, usually its a killer box. But hey, getting some is certainly better than getting none.

    TOLS,

Gotta admit that I was anxiously awaiting to hear what you found. Sorry it wasn't better, but not many guys have ever even found a Walker and have seen very few Franklins. Keep at it.

Heya Tols, how about dropping down to only a couple boxes a week so the rest of us, especially the newer guys, can have a good chance at finding them walkers and franklins?

Last box I went through, best I did was 2 40% silvers. But was so fun, will be picking up a box again as soon as my tax refund comes in.

Not bad, either, if I am reading it all correctly. The APMEX site is quoting 5.84 X face for 90% and 2.28 X face for 40%. However, believe APMEX has a $1,000 minimum transaction requirement (if applicable). And, for those who think there could be a silver confiscation in our future, don't think APMEX will pay on a cash and carry basis (like the local coin shops, probably).

you're reading it right, I was surprised, I thought even with silver up where it is I would get less. The cash and carry was nice, and I was able to "trade" my halves for a 32D quarter in VG and a 32S quarter in F, plus I received a fair bit of cash too! I love the higher silver prices, they allowed me to complete my washington quarter collection very cheaply!

Here's to the rewards of roll searching!:hail: :hail:

Good to get the key coins with found silver. Last year I got enough halfs to get a 1916-d merc in good. It was 2 weeks of work going to the banks but well worth it. Finding $350 in face 40% halves and about 2 rolls of 90% at one bank helped out alot. Also remember in Dec 95 silver was around $6.00.

I completely agree. Last Oct/Nov I was able to trade in a bunch of silver for my own 16-D (ANACS G6). My collection would be seriously diminished if I had been unable to sort half dollars for silver!

Well, found a bank that had recently ordered halfs from the Fed. Wish I had been able to grab the whole box, but they only let me get $150....Hmmm...maybe I'll go back tomorrow to a different teller......anyway, here's what I found:

    40%
    1968D x 2
    Kennedy
    1964D x 2
    1964 X 3
    Franklin
    1960D x 1
    1959D x 1
    1958D x 2
    1957D x 1
    1948 x 1
    Walking Liberty
    1945 x 1
    1945S x 1
    1940S x 1
    1918S x 1

First time finding Frankie's and Walkers so it's been a great day :D

Very nice pulls! Especially for only going through 15 rolls. If I were you I'd snatch the rest of that box ASAP!
