Reached the halfway point in my bank's box today... $250 searched through! Struck silver again today with a 1968. Found a few in the 80's I was missing and upgraded the condition on a couple. Also found a very worn 1974... looks like it's had heavy use, I swear it has more wear than any other coin I've seen under 60 years old. May post a pic later.

    rolls

I went roll searching monday and got 10 rolls, and a very nice teller at a small town bank even let me search their halve bag. Unfortunatley I looked through about $500 in halves in the bag and found no silver, bummer. I did find a couple with some nice toning that I kept. In the 10 rolls I brough home , all I came up with was 2-69's and 1-68.
I'll have to keep searching I guess. :smile

OK! OK! Talked to the bank they say OK! Talked to the wife, she's OK with the idea. I'm just itching to get some. Now one last question! What do you do with the common stuff you don't want. Bring them back to a different bank? Do banks charge anything to take large sums of odd denoination coinage?

Some banks charge a fee for coin counting... usually like 2% if you're a customer. Some make you roll them yourself. Never return halves to the same bank you got them from, or you risk getting the same ones back when you try to search more, plus it annoys the bankers there and may make them less willing to cooperate with your searching activity. Best to find a different bank entirely, or at least a different branch of the bank.

Can also use Coinstar if you're really desperate, or can't find anywhere else to unload them, but the fee is high on those... 8.9%. Or could just try to spend them... is kind of fun subjecting people to coins they rarely see, lol...

Went through two boxes. In one roll I found a 67 and a 69. In the other 99 rolls, I found nothing. I did find a 1976S in realy good shape.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!

    and to me too ;)

Walked the streets of NYC around my work looking for Kennedy's....no rolls anywhere. One bank finally a teller says "hey I've got $11 loose and a teller down the line says I have $7loose want them?" With no rolls to go through, I thought...why not?

GLAD I DID...here's the results of my $18.00 search:

    1971 - 1
    1972 -1
    1972D - 3
    1973 - 1
    1974 - 1
    1976 - 1
    1977 - 1
    1980P -1
    1981P - 1
    1981D - 1
    1989P - 2
    1991P - 1
    1995P - 1

Now for the fun stuff...if you've been keeping track that's only $8 worth ;)

    1968D - 1
    1964 - 19 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May all your searched halves be silver this Christmas.

Quick update to my "Christmas" find. The bank is just down the block from me so I ran back down to ask where the halfs came from. Answer, "some old guy changed in $140 a couple weeks ago." The rest are locked up in the vault till after the holidays, but the teller said he would hold them for me. Hopefully, this will be a HAPPY NEW YEAR find too. Stay tuned ;)

You guys are killing me. 20 rolls, nothing. I think I'll just have to give and go to dimes for a while. :smile

And I thought that you guys were taking a break for the holidays :) . Anyways, I went through my 6 weekly boxes last night. Five of six were picked over and had nothing in them. I saved the last box for last because I could see a Franklin on top. It turned out to be the only Franklin in that box. Oh well, here's the list:
    Franklin 1961-D
    Kennedy 1964 7
    40% Kennedy 142
So, it was definatelty quantity over quality, but I'm not complaining!
Best of luck and Happy Holidays to all!

Tols, you just found as many 40% halves as I've found since I started, and I've gone through 21 boxes.

Say...since you have found all the silver halves, why don't you switch to pennies or something and save some for the rest of us :goofer:

I do search pennies and nickels as well, but halves are still my favorite.

Well I got my first box of halves the other day. No silver!
I did find this 1994 I think it is machanical doubling but thought I ask for opinions.

I also found a boat load (5 rolls) of BU 1998P's someone must have dumped a mint bag into the pile?

I went to the bank Thursday and ordered my first $500 box of halves. I also looked through the few halves they had in their counter and found a 1968-D. I hope to have the box sometime next week.

Well, it's been a while since I sorted any halves with the money being tighter around here through Christmas, but I was able to pick up 2 boxes today, and I had one of those days that roll searchers everywhere fantasize about.

    Here are the totals:

    Box 1:
    1894S (AG3)
    1909 (G4)

    1917S (Obv.) (G4)
    1917D (Rev.) (G4)
    1919D (AG3)
    1936 x2
    1941
    1941S
    1942
    1942S x2 (one in AU50)
    1943 x3
    1943S
    1944
    1945

    1950D
    1951D
    1951S
    1952 x2
    1952D
    1953D x2
    1954
    1954D x5 (one is holed)
    1957
    1957D x4
    1960
    1962D x2
    1963 x3
    1963D x4 (one is Unc.)

    1964 x33 (numerous Unc coins)
    1964D x17 (numerous Unc coins)

    1965
    1966 x2
    1967 x7
    1968D x6
    1969D x3

    Box 2:
    NO SILVER :(

    BUT...

    it did have this one:

which upon closer inspection has these details:

I've been looking for one of these for a long time and I was thrilled to find it!! It made a completely worthless box one of my best boxes! What fun!

    So the overall totals are:
    2 Barbers,
    16 Walkers,
    29 Franklins,
    50 90% Kennedy's,
    19 40% Kennedy's, and
    a 1974D DDO!

I'm gonna have good dreams tonight!

The Cave Troll Great finds. Question does your bank have these boxes or do they order them? Thanks

If I ask them to order them then they will. I had to open an account, but other than that, there is no fee involved. I just have to go in the following Thursday and pick them up.

Very nice Troll!! My girlfirend informed me that I had to take a week off and spend "quality" time with her instead! Oh well! At least you provided me with a vicarious rush.

Keeping my wife happy is the biggest obstacle I face when trying to get new halves to sort. ;) It's a good thing I like her as much as I do!
