Good luck TOLS! I've gone through 4 boxes this week and found next to nothing. One 1934 Walker and a couple of 40% silver coins.

Well, I jsut went through the first of five boxes, and it wasn't a repeat performance. Here's the list:
    40% Kennedy 25
    1965 2
    1966 4
    1967 10
    1968 8
    1969 1

    90% Kennedy 3
    1964 3

    Franklin 1
1951 D The UGLIEST Franklin that I've ever seen

    Walker 1
1941 VERY VERY harshly cleaned. But hey, at least its nice and shiny!!!

Still not too bad i suppose

Don't give up Moen!!! Just remember the law of averages. These past few boxes are payback for a slow streak that I had a while back. About two months ago, I went through nearly $10,000 worth and found nothing. I only post my successes and not my failures. So, this may give warped perspective on roll searching. We all have our good days and our bad. I love hearing when you guys find some cool stuff. Best of luck to all!!!

Nice! I like to know right away if I'm looking at fresh stuff. No better way than seeing them on the ends of rolls, or grabbing a handful from a good bag.

Went to the bank and got $50 of halves. Finished and found 18 coins from 1965-1970. They are all in horrible condition. I mean AWFUL! you think someone just dumped them? I've been to that bank before a lot and found NOTHING! Either way-I"m going back this weekend for more.

The other four of my 5 boxes yeilded a grand total of 10 40% Kennedy's. Oh well! The law of average's once again rears its ugly head.
Hey Cherrypicker! I doubt that those coins were dumped. Personally speaking, I don't care how ugly a coin is, if its silver. I think that most people would agree. However, anything can happen. Keep on searching and keep on posting. Good luck!!!!

I found a Booker T. Washington half dollar in a box today. Its dated 1946 and has an S mint mark. I don't know anything about memorial coins, but this one was a pleasant surprise.

Well, I finished searching the boxes and heres the results. I thought I'd order 4 boxes and see if I could grab another one of those boxes with a bunch of walkers and franklins, but it didn't happen.
Box 1 and 3 contained no silver or proofs at all, but they did contain a bunch of 2005 P & D. I found 46 total. One roll of P's and one roll of D's with 6 left over. If these ever get as much value as walkers, I'm gonna sell them and get a couple rolls of walkers or maybe a key date.

boxes 2 and 4 had some silver in them
The 2nd box had that memorial half in it, and I found it in the very last roll I opened, so I was pretty happy.

Here's the total for the silver:

    64 - 2
    40% halves - 29
    Walkers:
    1944
    1946
    Franklins
    1951-S
1963-D in BU condition...not a sign of wear and its nice and shiny.

1946-S Booker T. Washington Memorial half dollar.

Didn't find as many walkers and franklins as I was hoping to, but i'm happy!

    where to get coins?

I am in southern california, and I am wondering where to get coins, every bank I go they tell me that somebody already got all the funny money.

I managed to get 500$ in halfs today but didn't find a thing, all of the rolls had a star on them, like they had been gone through or something...many many rools of 1976 coins though., Can I order boxes/rolls? how does this work

why collect the newer dates ones, I saw people saving 99 and newer?

Welcome! It's hard to know from the brief info. Respectfully, you may want to backread this thread. Many have shared varying experiences.

It sounds like you may be dealing with tellers who don't want to mess with it. If you haven't, go during the week (mid-morning or right after lunch can be best) to the headquarters or a major branch, and ask for the head vault teller. Ask for help. Get straight to the point. Find a bank that wants you to take halves off their hands, and/or will order for you. Tell them you will return them elsewhere. Then find a bank with a coin counter for returns. It often helps if you are prepared to open modest accounts with the ones most helpful.

    Good luck!

Well, by the lack of recent posts in this thread I assume that either I'm the only one left searching, or, more likely, we've all struck out recently. I for one, haven't found a thing in my last 14 boxes. Oh well! Thats life I suppose.

I think that we may have picked them clean. I have found next to nothing in the past several boxes. I've quite searching for a while.

I only have two more boxes coming in this week. If I don't find anything, I'll probably take some time off for the holidays. If they're loaded, I'm sure that I'll continue with renewed vigor. Happy Thanksgiving and good luck to all!

I've been too busy with school, and trying to deal with that bank with the crappy customer service. I still haven't cashed in the halves I went through 3 weeks ago. I got 2 more boxes coming in for thanksgiving though. hope I find something because right now my roll searching future isn't looking good.

I see you guys look through a lot of Kennedy's. Can someone help me? I have been looking for a 1989D rpm for what seems like forever, and can't find one. Do you guys find many 89D's...I could really use this rpm in my collection if someone finds one and wants to part with it.

    Thank You,
    Larry Nienaber

My second year of searching has been rather slow thus far. I've had limited spotty success- a few coins here and there, but nothing to get too excited about.

Honestly, I don't even look for RPMs. I just search for silver, proofs, 1987's, 2001-2005 and 1974 DDO's.

Took some time off. Now back in the hunt. Have been finding lower than the average number of keepers, about one in 142.

By the way, did find a new first. Not a Kennedy. But a 1964 Fifty Centavos/Central Bank of the Philippines. Does anyone know if it has silver content, and, if so, how much. Or, refer me to a website. It looks like it might contain silver, but does not seem to have the "substantial" feeling of U.S. 40 or 90 %. I found one reference to 1964 silver Philippines fifty centavos.

    Thanks!

The '89-D/D (RPM) is supposed to appear in mint sets but either I'm blind or this may not be true. I've looked at nearly a thousand of these and have not found one. Normally only about 100 half dollar die pair are used to make half dollars so 1% is typical minimum incidence for varieties. Some dies are retired early but one would expect to find this long before looking at so many sets.
