    amazing find

I just wanted to inform all you halves searchers that you no longer have to search for walker halves because I found them all. LOL.

A couple weeks ago I got a couple boxes of halves to search through. I opened the first box and there was a walker looking right up at me, so I thought I'd save the best for last and do the other box. So I opened up the second box and there was a walker AND a franklin looking up at me. So I went with the first box.

    Box #1:
    18 walkers
    8 franklin
    4 - 40% halves

    Box #2:
    38 walkers
    14 franklin
    1 - 90% kennedy
    12 - 40% kennedy

    WALKERS:
    56 total

    1917 - 2
    17D - 2
    18 - 3
    18D - 1
    18S - 2
    19 - 1
    19S - 1
    20 - 4
    20S - 1
    23S - 1
    28S - 1
    29S - 1
    34 - 4
    34S - 1
    35 - 4
    35D - 1
    35S - 1
    36 - 4
    36D - 2
    37 - 4
    37D - 1
    38 - 2
    40S - 1
    41 - 3
    41D - 1
    42 - 3
    42D - 1
    43 - 3

    Franklin:
    total: 22

    48 -1
    48D - 1
    50D - 1
    51 - 1
    52 - 2
    52D - 6
    53D - 4
    53S - 1
    54 - 2
    54D - 1
    63D - 2

So the next week I went and ordered 4 more boxes hoping I could find some more walkers and franklins. But I only found a total of 17 kennedy's and 1 walker - 1918D. One of the boxes only had 1 silver half.

Has anyone else found a bunch of walkers or franklins in the past month or so?

Great pulls!!! Don't you just love it when someone cashes in Dad's coin collection? I've never found that many Walkers in just two boxes. Keep on searching, but save some for the rest of us!

CL, you hit the mother-load. Nice goin'! Somebody must have cashed in their grandfather's collection or something. Do you already have a collections of Walkers or are you going to start one now?

BTW, that was supposed to be my box of halves. If you wouldn't mind, please UPS them to my today. Thanks in advance.

no, I only had 2 walkers before I started searching halves. I'm thinking about buying a dansco album now.

Well Chicken, it appears that you didn't find all the Walkers! I ordered 5 boxes, and they just came in. I have only had a chance to go through one box, but just by looking at the tops of the rolls, they are loaded with Walkers and Franklins. Here's the haul from the first box:

    28 Walkers
    28 Franklins
    2 1964 Kennedy's
    7 40% Kennedy's
    1 2005 P

I'm still at work and haven't had a chance to really cherrypick them yet, but when I do I'll post the dates. I sure hope the next four boxes are equally as good.

If I already didn't have a complete collection of Walkers, I'd be a huntin' you two down. :)

Tols, you didn't order those right after you found out I found those oldies, did you?

Actually the same day. I went through the other four boxes when I got home last night. 3 of 4 didn't have anything. The fourth, however, was loaded!!!! I'm going through the silver right now to compile a list. I'll post it when I'm done.

Ok. Here we go. I will preface this post by saying that these two boxes are by far the best that I have ever found. So, for any new roll searchers, don't expect results like this everytime. Like I posted before, I got 5 boxes in yesterday. 3 of the 5 had nothing at all in them. No silver, no Proofs, no nothing. The results of the first good box I posted above. The list below includes all the coins from both of the boxes that contained silver:

As always, I like to save the best for last. I found an 1893 Columbian Half. All that being said, I would like to ask some advice from you forum members. I found several coins that I think are worthy of sending in to a TPG. I'll post some pictures of the coins when I get home. I've never sent a coin in to be graded, so I would like to know if the rest of you think these are worthy of being slabbed or not. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. And the best of luck to all!!!

    TOL-

You really make me sick. Sick of looking through 2000 1971 half’s for nothing, sick of lugging around bags of coins, and sick of reading the half’s forum.

No. I'm just venting my frustrations.:( You really made out like a bandit with someone’s collection. I am really happy for you and I am thoroughly impressed that you are able to consistently pull enough keepers to keep me in awe of you. Where do you live again?:D I think I need to look for a branch job in your area.:p

    :) :)

I live in South Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia. I don't know how the banks you guys go to get their halves. The bank I work at orders them directly from the Fed as opposed to from an armored car company that just collects, rolls, and redistributes them. This can make a huge difference. If your local bank doesn't get halves direct from the Fed, and there happens to be another roll searcher in your general area, it is much harder to find good coins as the same ones are just recycled.

Tols, you make me sick. Right after I found all those oldies, I went to the bank and ordered 4 more boxes and found less than average. Then you go and order 5 boxes and get the ones that I was hoping to get.

The pics will be up tonight. The wife took the camera to Atlanta for the weekend. Now, she's back, and the camera can be put to a better use than taking family photos! Just kidding.

You guys are just too lucky. I just started searching rolls and have not had very good luck so far. I've searched 448 halves so far and found 2 65s, 3 67s, and 3 69-Ds. No 90% at all. The rest have been 278 in the 70's, 71 in the 80's, 85 in the 90's, and 6 in the 00's. Newest one has been a 2001-D. The bank I go to is very willing to order me as many halves as I want so I'll keep trying.

Actually 8 (silver) keepers in 22 rolls is well above average. The average tends to be about half that much.

Don't be discouraged by comparing your finds to TOLS's because s/he is a bank teller and searches numerous boxes every week. It stands to reason that s/he would be more likely to stumble upon a fabulous box or two.

Sorry TOLS, as i was posting I realized that I don't know your gender. For some reason I'd always assumed female, base on the fact that all the tellers at my bank are females, but as i was writing I rrealized that was a rediculous assumption, especially since most coin collectors are male, so I used the stupid "s/he" pronoun to cover all the bases.

The Cave Troll (definately a "he", I mean, really, have you ever heard of a female Cave Troll? lol)
