Thanks! Let's just say I'm not in your area, and banks work much differently here. Difficult to get orders from the Fed because of Fed charges to banks. Banks operate or use regional clearinghouses. No walk-in coin machines. I have searched at the trough in larger quantities. Oh well. You know what they say about pigs.

I don't know. You'll have to ask Cave Troll. He collects holed of all sorts. Probably because he has everything else. HA!

Strange how that happens. I got a nice 2002 P and D almost as soon as I started putting a Dansco album together. I've seen several more since. The dates and mint marks that continue to elude me are 2000 P and D (I've seen a few chewed up ones), both 2003s, the 2004-P, and both 2005s. :D

Woops, scratch that....I've got both 2003s, not 2002s! My bad!

Maybe the troll wants mine. He can have them. I have 5 with different sized holes but all at the 12 o'clock position.

I don't understand why the 1999's... unliess you can get a full roll in Gem BU!
I realize they are the lowest minted Kennedys released in circulation, but most every one I've seen are in high grades. (Unless you can get a full roll of 1999's in GEM BU, I can't see why you would ant to save them  )

most of the 1999's I find are not in good shape. They usually have a ton of scratch marks, poorly minted, and have rounded edges.

Right now I think I have more 1987 halves (3 of them) than I have well minted 1999.

Many of the ones I've seen would probaby grade MS-63 or higher, but they've all been Ds. Yeah, I've seen some that were pretty beaten up too, but I just want a nice P and a D for my set. I still need the P.

This is the same as my experience too. I have trouble finding them in anything other than "abused" condition.

P.S. For those of you asking about holed coins, I'll post images of my type set in a little bit so you all can laugh at my strange collection.

Actually if you have a 1964 holed Kennedy I still need one, but I have the silver clad and the copper clad already so I don't need them.

It's turned into a really fun collection, though!

I went through 100 rolls this weekend. I guess I did average:

    1-60D Franklin
    1-64D Kennedy
    9 40% silver kennedy's
    2002S proof
    2 gold plated kennedy's

not the best for silver, but pretty good in non-silver.

We've heard how BigsWick has done so far searching halves, but what about the rest of you who've been at it for a while? Cave troll, moen, willie? Others?

Oh for the good old days when halves circulated, and rolls were full of high grade Walkers. About three-quarters of my complete-minus-one set came directly from my own pocket change!

I don't keep as good a' records as BigsWick, but I'll see if I can come up with some totals. hmmm, this might take a little while.

    I think since about May/June, I've collected,

    288-40% silver
    40-90% siver
    2-gold plated counter stamped
    1-Barber
    9-Walkers
    18-Franklins

And completed two books P,D, and S from 1964-2005 with coins in almost uncirculated conditon. Had to buy a lot of the S coins but not all.

I think the most surprising thing was how good of a condition some of the circulated coins were in all the way back to 1964. Kind of made me want to start another set. [IMG]

You should be looking for Kennedy doubled dies if you aren't allready. There are some nice ones to be found in the 70's.

wow! this would be fun to do! how much are half rolls, and what rolls do you suggest i get with $20? i dont want to spend much at the start, just to see if the coin god frowneth or smile upon me :D

rolls are $10 each. I think the biggest problem your gonna run into is finding banks that carry halves. But you'll find one if you keep looking.

Unfortunately, quantity is key. You can't pull much unless you buy a box of 50 rolls unless you get extremely luck and someone walked in ahead of you and dumped some old coins.

I did find one Atrox but I really don't know what to do with it. I think Mike Diamond would just call these worn out die doubling or something like that and probably not of any interest or value to most collectors. For example, how much do you want to buy mine for?
