I went to the bank today to get a hundred rolls of Kennedys and my bank was on fire. And for some odd reason, they wouldn't give me any money. I'm tellin' ya, customer service has gone down the tubes! In the old days, they would have not only given me the coins that I needed, they would have sprayed the coins down with water to cool them off first. Ohhhh! The times they are a changin'. :)

    OUCH!

This summer I took my motorcycle on a day trip through several small towns near where I live. I noticed that about every other one had a bank. I'm thinking about taking maybe $2,000 in around 2 or 3 weeks and going half hunting in these hopefully fertile locations.

    Mother load!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally got to the bank and picked up two boxes of halves. WOW! The first box was full of silver...and gold. Check this total out.

    Franklins:
    3-1963's
    1-1962
    1-1961
    1-1957
    1-1953

    Kennedy Half dollars

    9-1964's
    2-1965's
    3-1966's
    22-1967's (not a typo)
    11-1968's
    8-1969's

And my first gold plated 1974 Kennedy with the 1960-1980 stamp.
I can't wait to open the second box from the same bank. Almost every roll had some silver in it. A good day!

O.K. The second box wasn't as impressive. It had a total of 8 silver coins:

    1-1964
    1-1965
    1-1966
    2-1967
    2-1968

    1-1945 walker.

Check this mark out. It looks like a 7 or something. Is it part of the normal design?

According to the 2006 Red Book: "This type was designed by Adolph A. Weinman, whose monogram, AAW, appears under the tips of the wing feathers."

Believe that "7" is actually part of what looks like an A overlaying a W.

It looks like it could be the AAW but it doesn't at the same time...it looks (maybe its just the photo) that the line that looks like the 7 goes to the rim...if that is the case I don't know what it is...if it doesn't go to the rim...then I would go with the AAW

That's just a nick in the rim. It turns out that it's just what's left from the AAW.

Nice pull Moen! good to see those franklins.

For some reason I have bad luck with Franklins. In 350 rolls that i've gone through I've found 5 walkers and only 3 Franklins. I guess I've just been really lucky with the walkers.

Thanks, I've found so many that I've considered starting another full collection. They are pretty cheap so I can easily fill in the ones I don't find.

I went through six boxes last night. You should have seen the look on my girlfriend's face when I brought them in the house. For a brief second, I thought that she was going to kill me. When I opened the first roll and a Walker peeked out, she got a little more interested. She actually went from mocking my "weird hobby" to joining in the roll searching! She's not quite a convert yet, but I'm working on it. And now for the more important list:
    1943-S Walker
    1956 Franklin
    1964 9
    1964-D 2
    1965 8
    1966 16
    1967 43
    1968 38
    1969 18

That was it for silver, but I did find several other interesting things:
    1982-S Proof
    1987-P BU (my first)
    2003-P 2
    2004-P 3
    2004-D 1
    2005-D 1
My first gold plated counterstamped Kennedy and, my personal favorite, two holed Kennedy's. Overall, it was about average, I've done better and I've done worse, but hey, at least I have someone to help with the sorting in the future!

Really nice pulls TOLS!! I have never found an 1987 anything. I'm curious what to do with the gold plated coin I found. What are you going to do with yours?

Believe me chicken, I had a heck of a time explaining to the guys that I was going to be an hour late for poker because I had to look through coins!

I was actually thinking of making the gold Kennedy my new pocket piece. The time has come for the worn old Morgan to be retired.

I found a new bank today. One that will actually order halfs for me. So I bought 3 rolls to see if opening an account was worth it. Well two 67's and a SMS 68 later I had a new checking account. Man I hope this is gonna be worth it.

So I picked up 50 rolls of Kennedy's at a bank I had never gotten coins from before and check out this take.

    2-1964's
    1-1966
    5-1967's
    3-1968's
    1-1969

    2-1963 Franklins

    1-1940 plain Walker
    1-1942 S Walker
    2-1943 plain Walkers
    2-1945 plain Walkers

Not a bad day in the Walker department.
