It’s not eaten away by acid. It’s got a nice edge on it.

Now that you've learned about all that is mentioned above I'll just say welcome to CT.

No, not by measuring. On its edge next to any other cent it’s easily noticeable.

If you're going to involve yourself in numismatics, you've got to have some calipers that measure in tenths of millimeters and a scale that measures the weight to at least 1/100th of a gram. This ain't horseshoes or hand grenades.

on CT ... if you don't show pictures it didn't happen / doesn't exist.
plus with all the wide angle cell phone images you easily get perspective distortion which throws actual comparisons way off.

Ok thank you. I was planning on a little scale for some finds that require it.

Do the calipers have much use in any notable and particularly valuable finds?

Neither scales or calipers are that expensive. You can find most online for less than the cost of the Red Book. Calipers are particularly helpful in some categories of errors and checking counterfeit coins.

Also, if you're using 2x2's with the mylar window for storing your coins, you might want to buy a "flat-cinch" stapler. You can get them at most office supply stores or online. They use standard staples.
