Guys I recently got a 1/4 mohur gold coin of Karim Khan Zand. For all those who collect Zand please post your coins. I specially love to see if anyone has Sadiq Khan, Ali murad khan and other rulers of Zand but you are welcome to also post coins of Karim Khan. A bit of history about Karim Khan better known as Karim Khan Zand (کریم خان زند), was the founder of the Zand Dynasty and the Shah of Iran, ruling from 1751 to 1779. He ruled all of Iran (Persia) except for Khorasan.[1] He also ruled over some Caucasian lands and occupied Basra for some years. While Karim was ruler, Iran recovered from the devastation of 40 years of war, providing the war ravaged country with a renewed sense of tranquility, security, peace, and prosperity. The years from 1765 to Karim Khan's death in 1779 marked the zenith of Zand rule.[2] During his reign, relations with Britain were restored, and he allowed the East India Company to have a trading post in southern Iran. He made Shiraz his capital and ordered the construction of several architectural projects there. he never accepted the title of King and instead insisted to be called the "Deputy of people"
That's a pretty coin, especially the obverse! Hey, I don't have a Zand, but I got a modern "Khan" coin! Afghanistan, AR rupee. Sheri Ali Khan, 1878. I have a thing for struck modern coins, I have a couple from the 19th century, but his is my latest.
I love the gorgeous calligraphy, but have been hesitating to buy a coin like it because otherwise my collection stops in 1350 AD.
@Pellinore Yes the calligraphy of Safavid to Early Qajar is my favourite I almost have collected all rulers of Safavid from Ismail I all the way to Qajar Rulers Nasir-al-din shah and they are very beautiful. I only have 2 gold coins one was this one and another is an ashrafi gold from Sultan Hussein last king of Safavid dynasty.
