This is a really old thread, but @ValiantKnight did such a good job with the OP, I thought it deserved another go around.

The other reason being I just got my first Byzantine coin from the Rome Mint, and I found this thread very informative when I was trying to figure it out - it was only vaguely, and incorrectly (Justin II) described on eBay. This was one of those purchases that was a bit surprising in hand - it is very chunky. And I really like that plain reverse - the I looks like a Doric column. Portrait's not bad either (my photos don't capture the legends, which are about 1/3rd legible).

As for the dating of this issue, I found a CNG auction that states 547-549 A.D. CNG auctions kind of intimidate me - they seem so authoritative! :bookworm: They certainly know more than I do. It would be interesting where this rather narrow 2-year range came from - if anybody knows, please share.

    Here's my new one - it's a greeny:
    Byz - Justinian I 10 nummi Rome May 2021 (0).jpg
    Justinian I Æ Decanummium
    n.d. (c. 547-549 / 550-560s A.D.)
    Rome Mint

DN IVS[TIN]IAN[VS P AVG], helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding cross on globe and shield / Large I, star to left, star to right, all within wreath.
    SB308, MIB 228; DOC 331.
    (6.13 grams / 18 mm)

    Notes:
"From looking at the chronology of events of this time, this was made either anytime from the early 540s to around 550 AD (when the Ostrogoths briefly retook the city), or in the years following the end of the Gothic War until Justinian's death in 565 A.D." Coin Talk

Any others out there since '14? Please share, Rome Byzantine, Justinian, whatever you want.
