I thought I might share my accumulated world coinage. I don't collect foreign coins, but I do keep what I find. My favorite is the 1922 1 Franc piece.
I love that 1947 2 franc coin; I used it once with my History students to have them analyze the economic impact of WW II on France.
And now you have taught me something. At first I thought it was fake. But then I looked it up. I was left wondering why it was toyish. I didn't make the war time connection.
A lot of countries have had aluminum coins at one time or another. They seem cheap but when they're in really nice condition they can be very attractive.
Along the same lines, the French 1F 1922 that you like is emergency money, issued by the French national chamber of commerce after WWI, to provide much needed coinage and paper money to the country as inflation took hold. It makes a good pair with the aluminum 2F piece.
I have 200 identical 200 Mark coins, 1923F from the Weimar Republic. They are aluminum, probably all at least MS63, and are extremely attractive in my opinions. Also have lots of other uncirculated Weimar aluminum coins.
Thats good information to know. Good history makes showing a collection 1000x more enjoyable. That's pretty cool. I'm guessing war coinage is a popular collection topic?
And it has to be put under perspective with the pre war coinage which was solid silver ! 3° republique - 2 francs 1910 REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, semeuse allant a gauche LIBERTE . EGALITE . I did not notice who posted. Just saw a wrong statement and did not want it propagated to the unknowing.
