I think 75% of the Roman emperors died of unnatural causes. Pete here is Daddy Theo I and Arcadius. These I got for a song. they are fun and easy to collect. Yep, starting with the military emperors the coins are much less expensive and available. I think my first ancient coin was a Crusader coin from Sicily 1100 AD. I still have it. :hatch: Traci
Then there's always Parthia: Parthia Vologases III (AD 105-147) Drachm Obverse: Bare-headed bust left with pointed beard; wearing diadem with loop at top; earring visible; border of dots Reverse: Archer seated right on throne holding bow; blundered Greek legend Mint: Ecbatana (undated) Catalog: Sellwood Vologases III Type 78 - Size 20mm
I love the look of the Parthian coins. That dude Vologases III gave my man Trajan fits. We know so little about the Parthians (and the later Sassanians). :crying: I regret missing the lecture on Parthia at this year's ANA World convention in LA. Did anyone go? Great coin. (Needless to say, however, there a good many counterfeits out there of both Parthian and Sassanian coins.) guy
