I had my eye on a MS Saluto d'oro in Maison Palambo Auction/ it ended up going for BIG $$$$$. So, another one came up in Italian auction (Ranieri) even more pristine, ended up getting it for a steal. Here she is... AV Saluto d'oro ND Naples Mint 23mm. 4.39g. .998 fine Carlo I d'Angio 1266-85AD obv. Arms of Anjou/ Jerusalem KAROL' DEI GRA IERL M SICILIE REX rev. The Annunciation / Archangel Gabriel / Virgin Mary / Vase of Lilies AVE. GRACIA PLENA DOMINVS TECVM
Thanks! The same coin sold in Maison Palombo Auction for 8750 Swiss francs + 20 % fees= 10K+ I got mine for 3300 euros/ fees included!
That is a gorgeous coin! I love the symbolism. I long for the day I’ll have the budget to add pieces such as this. Well done @panzerman !
That is a great idea. Even, after a long 14+ hour work day, I always find time to admire some my coins before retiring to bed....
My saluto, but not italian, anglo-galic: FRANCE (ANGLO-GALIC) - HENRI VI OF ENGLAND - SALUT D'OR - 1423
I tried bidding on a coin in this auction, but I got outbid by one increment. (and no, I am not sharing it so I don’t advertise this type further ) But that meant money was freed up for a different and special coin.
I know the feeling! I had my eye on a "fast stempelglanz" =(MS-63) AV 4 Escudos 1830 Michael I in Rauch Auction. i lost that coin by one increment too! But you never know, I have seen coins bid up 10X estimated value, that is what happens when two collectors with deep pockets want the same coin Best example of that took place in Triton XIX (Adam's Sale) there where a series of Mughal Zodiac Mohurs from Agr Mint, struck under Jahangir, all were estimated around 50K, all went over 325K!!!! Bought by a Saudi Prince.....of course.
