    Vess1,

The Silver Jewelry Cleaner sold at WalMart in the Jewelry Department will remove most fingerprints...especially from Silver coins and most of the time, leave the coin looking like it just came from the Mint! It generally does not remove the luster from a coin like many of the Coin Dips used by Coin Dealers. The only problem with it and any dip, is to not over use it! Just two or three quick dips in the solution using the internel washtub will do. There is a problem with the Silver Cleaner that you should be aware of and that is when a calcium looking debris really starts to accumulate in the bottom of the plastic container, then throw the stuff out! Due to excessive use, a chemical reaction or change occurs to the Cleaner and once the debris in the bottom of the container is noticeable, it's effectiveness is gone and it will actually damage the luster on a coin.

I took the pics under a Tensor light with the custom WB set and slightly offset so I wouldn't get the glare. And then I couldn't quite put the camera directly over it without getting a complete shadow. I know the pictures are dark but it's only because of the way the metal bends down from the strike. There's no dark areas on the coin at all.

PCGS began using these slabs in 95 and continued using them to Oct. of 1998. So it's been in this slab for at least 11 years and hasn't darkened. I'll have to keep an eye on the one area and see if it gets worse I guess.

If it bothers you, just sell it and buy another one - it's not worth fretting about.

lol I won't frett about it. :D This is about as good as a Mercury dime gets. I got it for under $50 so I don't have much in it anyway.

I have to maybe ,go along with Tres on this ,Die burn a possiblity

    Die Burn

While not a term that is used that often, it desribes the random, brillent patches that apear on the fields of some mercury dimes as a consequence of the die being vigorously lapped to remove cash marks or some other flaws
