It's called a type 2 Blank Planchet because it has the upraised rim. Nice find.

That's really cool! Did you find it in circulation?

Did you weigh it? I am guessing it is the 2.5 gram style.
2.5 grams copper plated zinc planchet and 3.1, the old style copper which is worth a little more. A nice circulation find.

I found one of those and thought it was a fake. I have it somewhere. If I find it, I will post it.

I found it in a penny roll. I haven't weighed it yet but it has a raised rim and it shows no signs of zinc. I also found some uncirculated copper from the 60's and 70's in the same roll. The newest coin in the roll was 1982. It almost seems as if someone cashed in their collection. I'm glad the bank decided to give me some customer wrapped rolls.

The luster appears to be plating and if it were copper and this circulated after 40 years it would be more copper colored and less shiny.
By appearance I think it is 2.5 grams. Please report back with the weight.

Here are two I got from the US Mint representative at a local coin show. These two are definitely 2.5 grams - zinc coated copper.

I'm looking at those planchets and wondering which one is the highest grade?

Nice find! I found one in a bunch of change the wife gave me to look thru about a month ago.

I used to work at a bar and a liquor store in Baltimore. I had people pay me with rolls of wheats, silver coins of all types, silver certificates. I added quite a bit to my collection over these years.
