Maybe some cast iron skillet toning based on the blue tint.

Looks very porous like it has been cast. Hard to tell for sure without seeing it in person.

It looks just like the 1974 penny that's aluminum

It has been plated. This was/is a very common school chem lab experiment. The sample is cheap and when they're done, kids get to take home the experimental results.

    Yup, plated
Very common in science experiments in school and many third party companies even today plate coins to sell.

Its been plated if it where an aluminum cent it wouldn't weigh 3.1 if memory serves me.

Correct.. The aluminum Cent is much lighter than a copper Cent. All have been accounted for and will never be found again. There are none in circulation.

And the aluminium cents were dated 1974 not 1967.

No there are still about 10 1974 aluminum cents missing. Not going to find them in circulation though, Congressmen have them.

You're right. I have a 1972 penny my sister plated with zinc when she was in college. She gave it to me over 35 years ago. Today the luster is gone so it just looks like a very nice steel cent. They're easy to make and they fool too many beginning collectors.

The 1974 Aluminum Cents weigh .93 gram.

(less than a 1/3 of the weight of a copper cent)
