There've been some fun additions to this thread during my post-hurricane absence. Thanks, @RAGNAROK and everyone!
I am not good at this, but... Jay Leno (Not going the Thrax route...) RR Titurius Sabinus 89 BCE AR Den Tarpeia buried shields S 251 Cr 344-2a
This Republic Denarius always reminded me of: Arte Johnson in Laugh In... RR Lentulus 88 BCE AR Den Mars Biga S 254 Cr 345-1
People often talk about the "modern" technique of fighters these days. We have been doing this stuff at least since Herakles took on the 12 weight divisions...I mean labors Herakles submits the Nemean Lion via guillotine choke in the 3rd round to capture the UHD (Undisputed Half Deity) heavy weight championship of the world!!! History repeats itself again!
This Lucilla reminded me of old china-head dolls. My grandmother was an avid collector of these (I was never interested). I knew I'd seen almost the exact same head somewhere. Lucilla is a dead ringer for old Jenny Lind china head dolls! Jenny Lind was a Swedish-born opera singer who was famous in the mid 19th century. German dollmakers began manufacturing china doll heads in styled like her. Jenny's iconic hairstyle was soft waves and a low bun, just like Lucilla's. Their delicate noses, rounded cheeks, and small pouty lips look similar too.
Merovingian "Porg"? (Star Wars VIII - The Last JeDi-sney...) HANice week and... May the Force be with al´ye...
Was looking through the CNG auction that's closing right now and found 80s Caligula! Not gonna find "Stranger Things" then some of the things Suetonius attributes to the man.
Another one for this silly thread. It looks as if Justinian borrowed Elton John’s glasses and hat for this portrait.
Here's a new pic of my 1st century AD Himyarite coin. O: Rick James, king of the Himyarites, monogram left (likely pronounced "soop-A-freak") R: Gonzo. Himyarite legend, "The Great Gonzo". Gonzo was a Himyarite god of crazy stunts.
I think I have nailed it!!!!! Even as a Canadian I am laughing... has anyone matched both sides of the coin?? Obverse ................................ Reverse ...drops Mic...
Excitedly looking through a massive upcoming Roman Republican coin auction I came across this lil doozzy...or should I say Alfred E Neummy. "What Me-dusa?"
