Just for fun - plated 1943 cents

    I know I am a very mediocre photographer, but I ran across these coins and thought I would post the photos I took...first a word of explanation. I was trying to clean some copper coins by dipping (don't remember exactly what I was using...maybe citric acid) and not doing so good. I had a 1943 zinc lying there and gave it a try in the same solution. I was surprised by the results, so I decided to make the set - P, D and S. The lower right is just a nice steelie.

    I like finding these with feeder finger rubs on the reverse.

    I think the 1943 steel cent is a fun coin to collect in all different forms.

    Belgium 1944 Battle of the Bulge
    As the German army blasted through Belgium, my father’s unit, the 9th Armored Division was at Bastogne

    I should add that the 1944 Belgian 2 Franc zinc plated steel coin was minted in Philadelphia mint from leftover US 1943 cent production.
    War still raging in Europe in 1944 so the US supplied currency for our allies
