    Hello everyone, bought some rolls of pennies and found this 1983 D. Just curious what causes some pennies to turn out gray. Just curious.

    Interesting. Might be a cent that's missing the copper outer layer. Looks like the zinc core.

    Might be an interesting error.

    you can see the copper aropunf the edge and letters and under the scrape om the reverse picture.

    my opinion a really dirty cent.

    Definitely environmentally damaged. It has been exposed to something in the environment that toned it that color.
