Hello everyone, just curious to see if anyone knows about this 1936 penny article which I thought was interesting. This showed up on my FB page, I tried to google it but couldn't find anything about this article would love to know more. Thank you
I guess he did a really good job of "not revealing" why anyone would pay that much for a 1936-P cent.
1936 has a DDO In MS67 RD this coin has a pcgs value of 45,000. It is hard to say what made the coin so valuable. Could have been an over achieving collector with too much money, who just had to have the coin.
The clipping looks like it's from long before anyone was issuing grades like "MS67RD". It's reminding me of the folks who occasionally pop in here with their road-rash Zincolns for which "a dealer" offered thousands of dollars. Without more sources, I'll put this guy's claim in with the Bigfoot sightings.
It's a UPI photo than ran in the papers on or about January 25, 1972. https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/180990485/
And Fred's opinion. @Fred Weinberg https://forums.collectors.com/discu...says-quot-it-is-not-a-genuine-mint-error-quot
Still trying to figure out the best Google search terms for "coins that are not man-made". Free-range organic coins? Divine strikes? Or is this just one of those "gotchas" where the press operator was actually a woman that day...
