Nothing here that would catch the eye of collectors of high grade Romans, but that can be said for just about all of Gallienus's coins from the later part of his reign... yours here are pretty much par for the course. I'd personally call them a fun bunch because I like these scrappy, affordable bronzes. 6 out of your 9 coins are from his 'Zoo series', of which I like the one with the centaur holding the bow best.
It's a nice Gallienus set featuring the zoo. If I saw it on eBay I'd probably buy it too, if the price was reasonable.
What did you pay? It's difficult to be gentle unless the price was right. I would say the lot should have been priced at 30 pounds to be reasonable. The gazelle/antelope coin bottom right is the nicest imo. A couple would benefit from further cleaning I think. Especially the middle coin , the reverse of which shows signs of green deposits in the exergue. A fun lot, albeit on the whole a middling grade for gallienus.
A nice colorful bunch, a menagerie with some virtues into the bargain. They are definitely a lot more interesting than the average 30-50 dollar Gallienus lots offered on Ebay, that contain mainly virtue or god reverses.
Nice lot for Gallienus. Depending on your cost, this could be a nice set to begin a Gallienus sub-set.
Nice => man, ya gotta love the animal coins, eh? Congrats, for I have been contemplating collecting all of the zoo examples, but so far I only have the panther (your panther example is very sweet, love the colour) I like your new score (good job) ... oh, but like everybody else has mentioned, it would also depend upon how much you paid for those slick coins, right? Oh, and I like the centaur, but the goat and the panther are both very cool as well
$30 for all 9 coins?! (wow, I think that's a great score ... congrats) Man, I would have paid $30 for a few of the lone examples (bravo)
Never hesitate... here are three beauties from my Gallienus zoo . I think you did great on the price, too.
