And quite the quandary........I was gonna say that I've never seen the 'bean' on any other holder except NGC or PCGS.
Nothing crack pot about the fact people will only pay PCGS/NGC money fro PCGS/NGC. CAC can't say we will pay x for our PCGS/NGC coins and y for everything else. Even CAC can't close those premium gaps
Yes CAC only does PCGS/NGC...my guess is it is for the same reason as why NGC doesn't do crossovers for any coins besides PCGS (they feel that many won't be good enough and that too many customers would complain about not receiving the sticker). WINGS (the sticker service for world coins) will review PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS or ICCS
That is a decent reason, but if CAC believed a coin was good enough to sticker at Anacs/ICG then it should be solid at that grade at any grading service. For instance, the coin in this thread: if it deserved the green/gold sticker at EF 40, then it should be worth at least Ef 40 money in any holder.
Well, I mean, I paid solid XF money for this coin. Clearly it's worth more than that to me. But if I get it in hand and it's hairlined or something then I doubt it's worth much more than I paid, if that.
That's a pretty cynical and underhanded post Eddie. It probably has more to do with pcgs & ngc having market acceptable price guides. If anacs had a price guide for coins in their slabs that was universally accepted and somewhat accurate I'm sure CAC would start stickering anacs slabs.
For the coin looks like it was a net graded AU to me. I would try a cross over to PCGS if it were me as from the pictures I wouldn't have high hopes any of them would put it back into a straight holder. It very well could look better in hand and change my mind though
Do they know a good grade when they see one or don't they? There's the issue. I don't think they do unless they get some help from the top-tier graders.
It still wouldn't be, you would never be able to sell ICG/CAC for PCGS/CAC money or ANACS or PCI ect. The market just does not accept that overall. Are there exceptions sure, There could be other reasons involved but that is the obvious one from a business standpoint to me. Are their coins they would sticker if the holder was changed absolutely and hence people do crossovers and crack outs ect, but the fact remains value can be added (sometimes significant) just by changing holders. That is a very legitimate business reason, you don't like them and are just looking for a reason to be critical.
You have to believe that because you don't have a reply. I like PCGS. Now where are you? Are you reading my mind? Are you clairvoyant, now? CAC is smoke. You just have trouble seeing that.
If you just want to pick a fight that's okay. There are legitimate market reasons they don't. Could they have other reasons absolutely and I could think of several but it would be nothing more than pure speculation.
And that's all you have. That's why you're still being personally-accusatory. I'm taking a position, and thus far you're just dancing around it. Try to understand the difference between that, taking a position, and a fight.
Wasn't the greysheet changed to reflect prices for CAC quality coins? At the very least it does not differentiate between PCGS/NGC (the bluesheet does that). So a CAC ICG/ANACS/PCI could be worth around greysheet values (give or take the normal discount/premium certain dealers offer below/above sheet prices).
My original reply had to do with the quality of the coin. The market value could still be lower for ANACS/ICG/PCI with CAC but the fact that it is a quality coin could still be acknowledged. NGC & CAC still sells for below PCGS & CAC in many series. Does that mean NGC coins should not be stickered?
I think the real reason CAC only stickers PCGS and NGC coins is that there's one thing all three companies have in common....
Theoretically but then they have cheapened their brand if they say PCGS/NGC are worth x and the others are worth y. Or they have to try and sell those others for the same price, or lower their prices for the first two. It creates a lot more businesses issues for them than value it would add
