LRB, eh? ... I'm never quite sure where the date-lines are for this term? => is Constantius-I considered an LRB? 301 AD - 303 AD ... or is Constantine-I the start of the LRB era?
Traditionally it starts in A.D. 294, with the reform of Diocletian. I don't like this date, though, as it means some coins of the Tetrarchy are not LRB's.
Naw, since Rome traditionally started in 753 BCE, and I focus on the Republic, I consider anything from Augustus onward as LRB.
I think your dates are too arbitrary for me. I mean, c'mon. Tiberius, Nero, Vespasian as LRBs? Naw you are wrong. LRBs begin after Hadrian. Everybody knows this.
I'm afraid not everyone realized you were joking....You were joking weren't you? IMHO, LRB starts with Romulus and I won't specify which one.
....do they stop with this guy? Anastasius (491-518 AD) AE Small Module 40 nummis (Follis) struck 498-507 AD 23.8 mm x 12.43 grams Obverse: Diademed bust of Anastasius- DN ANASTASIVS AV Reverse: Large M flanked by Stars, Delta Officina - NIC, cross above ref# SB32
Okay thanks, so roughly 300 AD though 500 AD = LRB (Late Roman Bronze) ... ummm, or apparently "Diocletian through Anastasius" Okay, gotcha Thanks, I'm sure that's very helpful for us new collectors ... I appreciate it Oh, and what about Byzantine? Ummm, and dark ages? ... or medieval? ... or modern? Man, everybody kinda knows the answers, but there never seems to be a real line in the sand ... hmmm, interesting ... yah, this ancient coin collecting thing has many layers to it, eh? (kinda like Shrek)
Who here uses the following book as one of their LRB references? R. A. G. Carson, P. V. Hill, J. P. C. Kent, The Late Roman Bronze Coinage A.D. 324–498. London: Spink and Son, Ltd., 1960. (and/or the 1989 revised edition)
Since getting into LRBs. I've been getting more interested in them, here are a few of mine... My first and only camp gate, for now. Licinius
