    Hard to say, but I'd expect with that amount of wear that the crease down the missing part would've been worn down as well. It's far enough gone to make a Blakesley effect hard to spot, but what does the opposite edge look like?

    Looks like a bored somebody 'sidewalked' it at some point in the past.

    I think it's PMD. I've seen many 'clips' in the scrap cans at my local coin shop. As you are aware, reeding was added to deter the shaving of material off gold/silver coinage. This was less aggressive or obvious as a 'clip', but it all results in the same thing: accumulation of gold/silver to cash in as bullion.
