I must admit that this is a little misleading since this is the one and only Tetradrachm that I ever owned . While this does not fit into my collectors´ niche (see https://www.cointalk.com/threads/julius-germanicus-top-5-sestertii-of-2017.307770/#post-2941458 for that), I nevertheless bid on it out of pure curiosity and won it. Before it must go, here it is: AVTOK K M ANT ΓOPΔIANOC CЄB / ΔHMAPX ЄΞ VΠA TO B Radiate, cuirassed bust of Gordianus III left, both pteryges visible / Eagle standing facing, head left, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; below, crescent above ram leaping left, head right. Tetradrachm, Antioch, 242 10,91 g / 26 mm McAlee 881; Prieur 298 ex London Coin Galleries Auction 4 I took these pictures for my Christmas sale, so if someone here wants to give this darling a new home, there is a chance to do so before December 30 on German Ebay (https://www.ebay.de/itm/Gordian-III...642664?hash=item284a80bc68:g:oSMAAOSw3fZaPohF).
I know this isn't a "show us your tets" thread but I thought I would anyway. I like these sturdy coins. Philip I Antioch Caracalla, Laodicea ad Mare Volusion, Antioch
I also find it very easy to love coins of this type---although of debased silver they are so cool and large I'll add one of Philip II
Nice tets everyone. They are all fantastic. I only got two tets in 2017 but they were both real eye candy...especially the toning on that Probus.
