Am I imagining it or was this struck on a flan made from a genuine denarius? In front of the captive is a shadow of NA and there are several ripples in the surface that could be from this. Sacrificing a common coin to make a flan for a high end fake is an old trick so it means nothing as far as the coin being real or not.

What is the oldest record of a photograph of this type? I find it odd that the letter spacing and some flaws are as close as they are on the real and the fake but the details on the carnyx are not at all alike. Is the origin of the fake die known?

Cathago's coin and this one are obv. die matches?
I'm not sure if the one I post earlier was also a match to them but it's freakishly close.

Is it just me or do they all match the fake? A transfer die was used?

Volodya's obv. doesn't seem to match these.

Carthago Does this look infected to you?

Good eye! Yes, that's the key. I believe there are only 2 known dies; mine with the crazier hair and the one above. The fake is made from a transfer die of my die and the forger bungled the helmet and carnyx.
