Yes, that was part of my point. Also, because the second tier TPG's aren't viewed as reliable, they can't be used in the registry. I imagine people would be upset if an ICG MS66 were assigned the same points as a NGC/PCGS graded coin.

Believe me, I'm competitive and agree with much of Jason's post as well. I like the idea of being able to compare sets with other collectors and it seems the easiest way to do that is to assign points by coin grade.

I have 5 competitive sets at NGC. I don't know if I'll ever complete any of them, since I primarily like to buy what appeals to me and am not driven to complete any of them. It's nice to see where those sets are in comparison to the others that are registered. Part of me thinks it's neat to compete that way and part of me thinks it's amusing how worked up people get over these registry sets.

Become a member of the ANA and you can do that on your member page. Create a gallery of your coins to "inventory, post pictures and write information about." No points, no problem.

I got em in both. I like ngc for my type set as I can enter both and see how close to complete it is. I like my trade dollar registry at pcgs as they have a set that includes both business strikes and proofs and that's what I hope to compete less the 84 and 85. I do wish I could get a couple of my ngc ones on there I may end up crossing them tho

I am a member. When I first joined, I started to do that and now can't remember why I decided to add them on the NGC site.

Well their new site is not very old yet, and this was really only possible on the new site, so you haven't missed much yet! I started to play around on their site when they wanted beta testers, but really haven't been back since they launched. I would be interested in your thoughts on the ANA inventory / collection system if you decide to update it.
