My bad it was a mistake putting 400,000. You’re absolutely right that it was a mintage of 100,000. As to the 100% survival rate I beg to differ. Now I may be wrong as this is just speculation but let me explain why I believe that won’t be so and why I believe they might increase in value and justify purchasing them. First of all is the “time” factor. For the next few years the survival rate may indeed be 100% but that doesn’t mean it will stay that way decade after decade. Some will get lost. Others will be damaged in accidents. Things happen. Coins get scratched, dropped, and damaged. All it takes is for a kid to open up the capsule and touch it with bare hands and drop it on the floor and boom it goes from MS69-70 to MS67. I think in time the MS69 & MS70 coins will decrease in number and incidents like that naturally happen over the years. Secondly is the collectibility factor. It’s possible that many of these Morgans will be sold overseas to collectors of Morgans meaning the supply will be stretched and it’s not like they’ll be making more. In fact I’ve read rumors (just rumors but it’s possible) that the Mint will be doing this series on a yearly basis. Based on the fact they sold out in minutes it wouldn’t surprise me. If that happens it’s possible that there might be more people interested in collecting them. Second is the fact that ALOT of people already collect Morgans and they will need these ones if they don’t want 5 blank spots in their collection. A lot of people collect Peace Dollars too and the same applies. It would be difficult to be a Peace Dollar collector and not wanting to fill that blank spot. In the short term it’s very likely that the survival rate will be 99-100% but in the very long term (20-30+ years) it’s also very possible that the demand for them will outpace the supply and lead to a rise in value. Even with a 100% survival rate they are still some of the rarest Morgan dollars out there. Heck look how many 1921 P/D & S Morgan’s were minted and there are a lot more than 175,000 still in MS63+ condition yet they still have a $100+ price tag in MS63+ even with the fact that you can buy them by the roll in BU condition.
