  3. A jeton--perhaps one of the Nuremberg series.

I agree, it looks like a jeton, whether or not of the Nuremberg series, but I'm no expert. It doesn't look like a coin to me. This is my only Nuremberg jeton. IMG_8666.JPG IMG_8667.JPG

The opening post specimen is a so called "Venus penny" jeton. Origin is Flanders around 1500AD.

You may be right - but the link didn't work and by the time I had sorted that out the page had moved on. I could not see which one you were looking at - have you a link to the exact coin?

Can anyone explain to me why nuremberg Jetons are attributed to individual French Rulers? I have one made by Hans Krauwinckles but attributed to Charles IX. Screen Shot 2018-06-12 at 8.jpg

Charles IX, 1570. Jeton. 27mm, 4.10 gr. Obv : JUPITER ET GANYMEDES. Ganymede and the Eagle. Rev: VENERANDA MINERVA. Minerva seated left. By Hans Krauwinckles (1562-1586).
