Jefferson nickle @ 4.8 grams?

    All should understand that balances/scales can be mishandled enough to cause continuing errors. This is very prominent with the electronic ones. Most do not come with a "standard weight" to see if one's device is accurate and such weight can be bought online so if it is a certain weight and your device shows exactly that weight, all is OK. If the scale reads differently, you will have to use the instructions how to adjust to correct. Amazon and other online stores have a good assortment. Jim

    With the tolerances+/- and the circulation this coin it is normal. Second: In numismatics we use balances with at least 2 digits after . so your scale show 4.8, what it is after 8 ????. If it is 5 is nothing wrong about coin.
