PCGS MS65. The list price on this coin is just above Numismedia Retail of $10,530. However, Numismedia does not take into account the different die varieties when valuing these coins. This particular example is a Duvall 3-D variety which is the the most elusive of the 4 available. As stated before in another thread, the Duvall 4-E has a current population of 2.

The last two rainbow toned Duvall 3-D Lafayettes auctioned by Heritage brought over $13,000 each. My concern with this coin is the pull away toning on the obverse and a mark on Washington's cheek. I have asked the seller to submit the coin to the CAC for review. If the coin comes back with a sticker, I will buy the coin immediately. If it does not, I will have to see the coin in hand before I commit to buy it at the listed price.

I really hope it gets a sticker. I know this will stir up much controversy. It seems that any support for the CAC always does. However, this is exactly the reason that the CAC was created. At the very least, it is the publicly stated reason that Albanese gave. If the coin has a sticker, I can be confident that the coin is good for the assigned grade of MS65 assigned by PCGS, and can buy the coin sight unseen from only viewing a photo. The photo incidentally was taken by none other than Mark Goodman, so we know that it is an extremely high quality pic. There is a $5,500 difference between MS64 and MS65 for this coin. If the coin does not sticker, I will wait until I see the coin in hand and decide for myself what grade I think it deserves and act accordingly.
