That is sad news. He took a little loved, short series and really made it shine. For some reason I always had a soft spot for SLQ's, and I thought he was a nice man.
He was always willing to talk at shows and was quite approachable. Condolences to his family and friends.
Sad to hear nice guy, he gave me one of his tokens at FUN show a few years ago if I find it I'll post the reverse
I looked for him at the FUN Show. Someone else was at his booth. They told me that he called in sick. Now we know.
I didn't know him well, but he was always friendly and liked to chat. My condolences to his friends and family.
I'm really surprised this didn't make news at the FUN show. I noticed he wasn't there, but didn't probe any further. The guy was definitely an asset to our hobby.
Jay was a great guy, he loved his SLQs and made us all love them along with him. Condolences and prayers to his wife and family. Best Regards, George
I'm am very sorry to hear that He will be missed. I met him once at the Long Beach show. An I was looking for a Type 1 LSQ and I did'nt have the kind of scratch that His coins demanded so I ask him if he had something suitable for my type set. He reached into a box and handed me a 1917 P type one LSQ which is the most beautiful LSQ I've ever seen and for a great affordable price He was Quite a gentleman and a real scholar and I consider him a real Friend I also seen him on and off over the years and he remembered me! He will be missed ! God Bless Larry Michels Vice president of the Las Vegas Numismatic Society
