    I think Zumbly meant the portrait, but I couldn't swing a front-facing picture into a profile so here's Bing as a wonky-nippled Genius. :D

As collectors, we tend to see the faults of a coin first, by necessity actually, because we have to be able to size up what we want to collect and what we don't. But I find it easy to fall into the glass-half-empty mentality. I have some complaints about the surfaces and strikes on each of these newps, but nothing terrible. The truth is, for the price I paid, I'm quite pleased. Contrast the styles between two of my tetrarchical folles from Siscia and Trier, the most obvious being that on one, Genius is wearing a loincloth, and on another, he's going Full Monty.

I've got to wonder why the second Genius is covered - were the citizens of Trier less accepting of divine nudity?

Another contrast between Trier and Siscia mint styles. The busts are very different, as are the reverses. I particularly like the very finely engraved chlamys on the Trier Sol...

I think the die cutter had his dimensions off when he cut the arms into the die from Siscia. Genius' right arm would hang down to his feet.

Both are nice, particularly the obverses.

There are soooo many flat strikes in Theodosian Dynasty bronze. Generally the obverses are better than the reverses, but if you're going to hold out for "perfect" coins from this era, forget about it - you may as well go collect moderns.

And just for kicks, four of Constantinus II. Notice that the GLORIA EXERCITVS types are brothers from Lugdunum, prima and secunda officinae...

The lower left coin clearly has a fake desert patina, but I bought it long before I knew what I was doing, so I give myself a pass. Live and learn.

That's enough for LRB's today. Now I'm going to go collect something Indian, just to make AN happy.

All look good! Interesting comparisons between the same coins from different mints.
