Few people in the USA realize, but the paper money in the Philippines strongly influenced the dimensions of the US paper money when it went to a smaller size in 1928. The BEP printed Bank of the Philippine Islands and Philippine Island banknotes. The first was a chartered commercial bank still in operation as the BPI, the latter was the Philippine government.

The US was the colonial master in the Philippines from 1898-1936 when the government there was given considerable autonomy leading up to complete independence in 1946.

Pardon the crappy hand held, lighted with a flashlight photo, but the tie of Peso to the currency of the U.S. was always interesting to me. Nice looking note as beat up as it is. How many people do you know today that would be aware of "Commonwealth Of The Philippines - United States Of America" ?

I also have a lot of philippine Japanese era inflated currency. All uncirculated and worth nothing. So we just use it to play as real money when we were young by then.
